The new season of the MFA Women’s Premier League (Mumbai Women’s Premier League) got underway today, and it came with a slow start. Mumbai Dynamos and Football School of India (FSI), freshly promoted from the Women’s Super League, shared the spoils in a 1–1 opener.

For Dynamos, it was Gabrielle Soans who found the back of the net, giving her side an early boost in the campaign. FSI, however, showed their resilience and equalised through Aysha Sartape to ensure they marked their Premier League debut with a valuable point.

FSI and Mumbai Dynamos went toe-to-toe with each other with both teams giving it their all where none could break the deadlock in the first half. In the second half the first goal came from Mumbai Dynamos struck by Gabrielle Soans but FSI didn’t back down and came up with an equaliser via Aysha Sartape. Both teams kept pushing for the winner but in the end they has to settle for a point each.

The field: Who’s in this year

The 16 competing in the 2025–26 edition are:
Mumbai Knights, Kenkre FC, PIFA Sports, Sporting Club Bacaim, Warriorz FC, Mumbai Dynamos(previously known as South Mumbai United), MYJ FC, Young Guns FC, Oranje FC, CFCI, Indian Rush SC, Somaiya, Bombay Gymkhana, D’Souza Football Academy, plus the newly promoted FSI and not to miss out on the new team Flash Football Academy.

What to watch this season

• Champions vs contenders: Mumbai Knights enter as defending champions (2024–25) after a perfect season (11 wins in 11), while Kenkre FC were champions the year before (2023–24). Both remain the bar to clear.
• Promoted punch: Newly promoted teams (like FSI) often bring youthful energy and tactical surprises, today’s draw supports that.
• Rising depth: The confirmed pool of 16 teams is the league’s largest in recent years and signals genuine growth in Mumbai’s women’s game.

After a season of sheer determination, consistency, and plenty of goals, Rudra FC ended the MFA Women’s Premier League on a strong note as the first runners-up of the tournament.

With this, Rudra FC secured a place in the WIFA (Western India Football Association) Women’s League and is one step closer to reaching the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2, marking its presence on the national stage. A top-two finish in the WIFA Women’s League will propel the dynamic Rudra FC team to IWL 2.

Supported by Capri Sports, Rudra FC showed great promise throughout the league, with seven wins and two draws in 11 games. They amassed 23 points to finish second in the standings. The club scored 27 goals and conceded only 11, demonstrating strength all around the pitch.

Mumbai Knights Football Academy has rewritten the history books, emerging as undisputed champions of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) Women’s Premier League 2024-25.

Their flawless campaign, featuring 11 wins in 11 games, showcased a level of dominance never seen before in the league’s history. Scoring an astounding 59 goals while conceding only 4, the team set a benchmark for excellence in Mumbai women’s football.

A Season of Records and Recognition

The league, comprising 11 of Mumbai’s top teams, was no match for the Knights’ firepower and defensive solidity. From their opening game, Mumbai Knights set the tone, playing with precision and flair.

Two of their standout players received well-deserved accolades:

  • Pranita Nimkar, who not only marshalled the defense but also contributed 18 goals, was awarded Best Defender of the League.
  • Bhagyashree Dalvi, a relentless force in attack with 14 goals, was named Best Forward of the League.

The Man Behind the Triumph

The mastermind of this historic feat is Preetam Mahadik, who recently took over the club. Known for leading Maharashtra’s beach soccer team to a silver medal at the Daman & Diu Beach Games, Mahadik brought his expertise and vision to Mumbai Knights.

When faced with the challenge of forming a new squad after several key players left for other clubs, Preetam didn’t waver. He built a team from scratch, instilling discipline and confidence during rigorous training sessions, including beach conditioning and five-day-a-week drills.

“It wasn’t just about building a team; it was about creating a family,” Preetam shared. “The hard work and sacrifices over three months have paid off, and this is just the beginning for us.”

Support Behind the Scenes

Running a women’s football club is no small feat, but Preetam had the unwavering support of his close allies, Ronald D’Souza, Imran Kapadia, and Sachin Pagdhare. Together, they ensured that the players had access to top-notch infrastructure, nutrition, and training facilities, enabling them to perform at their peak.

Looking Ahead: IWL and Youth Development

With the MFA Women’s Premier League title under their belt, Mumbai Knights are now eyeing the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2 qualifiers. The team is determined to secure a place in India’s top-tier women’s football league, with players like Priyanka Sujeesh, who was recently signed by East Bengal, leading the charge.

The club’s ambitions extend beyond the senior team. Mumbai Knights is gearing up for the U14 and U17 leagues, focusing on player development and providing young talent with facilities and a competitive platform.

Setting High Standards for Women’s Football

Under Preetam’s guidance, the Knights aspire to play an attractive and tactical brand of football. “It’s not just about winning; it’s about how we play the game. We aim to set new standards and inspire the next generation of women footballers,” Preetam remarked.

With their recent triumph and clear vision for the future, the Knights are well on their way to becoming a powerhouse in Indian football, inspiring countless young girls to dream big and achieve greatness

Facing Bodyline SC in their final league game, Mumbai Knights had a slow start to the game testing bodyline defense but failing to breach it. It wasn’t until late in the first-half injury time when Mumbai Knights finally managed to break the deadlock courtesy of a Velanie Fernandes strike.

Two minutes later, Neha Ture added her name to the scorer lists with a clean finish after a corner routine. Minutes before end of the play, Mmehak Lobo finished off the move with a thunderous shot to make it 8-0 in favor of the Mumbai Knights

Mmehak Lobo and Valencia D’mello’s injury-time strikes drag Mumbai Knights from the jaws of defeat to edge past India Rush and pick all three points

The Saturday morning encounter of MFA Women’s Premier league saw Mumbai Knights face off against India Rush in what turned out to be an exciting game filled with frantic late drama that saw three goals scored in injury time and fortunes swinging from one team to other in a matter of minutes.

Coming on the backs of three back-to-back wins, Mumbai Knights looked set to continue their form when in just the 12th minute of the game, Alexandra Eccard broke the deadlock to Mumbai Knights in front. The game continued to and fro as both sides created chances in search of goals. In the second half, India Rush started creating problems within the Mumbai Knights’ backline in search of an equalizer.

The pressure paid off when in the 42nd minute, Pooja Singh found the equalizer to pull back the game on level terms. As the game progressed, the match seemed to head for a draw when in the first minute of injury time, Pooja Singh slotted home her second of the morning to put her side in lead in what seemed like a winner.

However the very next minute, Mumbai Knights were given a lifeline when substitute Mayuri More’s run into the box was cut down by a foul tackle. The referee didn’t hesitate in pointing toward the spot-kick as Valencia D’mello stepped up to take the penalty making no mistake as her shot beat the keeper to find the net.

Two goals in two minutes of injury time and it looked once again like the match was headed towards a draw. Mayuri More though had other ideas as her brilliant through ball cut through three defenders to find Mmehak Lobo beating the offside trap before slotting home the winner. With that late winner, Mumbai Knights made it four wins in four-game.

Mumbai: Matchday 8 of the MFA Women’s Football league had noteworthy moments when the teams clashed in Group-B fixtures.

The day opened seeing South Mumbai United gaining their first three points in the league. A solitary goal by Florian Pereira at the 18th minute proved to be the difference between both ends. Companeroes on the other hand continue to languish at the bottom end failing to open the scoring tally. After 4 games, South Mumbai United gained 4 points with a win and one draw.

In a Mumbai Women’s football derby, a robust clash between PIFA and Kenkre saw the former emerge victoriously and claim the top-spot in Group-B table. Bhagwati Chauhan drew the first blood at a crucial moment before the first half. As the second half commenced, PIFA’s formidability scaled and Priya Sukhdeve put the final nail in the coffin at the 67th minute, clinching the three points to reign atop the league table with 10 points. With this loss, Kenkre is seated at the second position with 7 points, with two wins and a draw.

The final game of the day saw Soccer XI end on equal terms against FC Mumbaikars. After a goalless first half, Snehal Ghadge broke the deadlock for FC Mumbaikars at the 42nd minute. Things fared well for FC Mumbaikars until Valencia D’mello rose to the occasion at the fag end and snatched 2 points from them. With this draw, Soccer XI are placed at the 3rd position with 6 points whereas FC Mumbaikars sit at the 4th place with 5 points.
