MFA Corporate Elite League: Bank of Baroda beat Air India 6-1

Second half showdown helped Bank of Baroda register a massive 6-1 win over Air India on Thursday, 02 June 2022.

Bank of Baroda made a quick start to the game and opened the scoring in just the 9th minute. Sanket Humbe opened up Air India’s defense and passed the ball to Denzil Mascarenhas who took a shot and found the back of the net.

A few moments after the opening goal, Bank of Baroda earned a free kick. Hardik took it, lobbed the ball in and Anas put his head to it but his effort went wide.

After going down, Air India pressed on in search of the leveler as Asad Munshi volleyed a shot in but it went wide.

Midway through the first half, the Bank of Baroda attackers were giving Air India’s defense no breathing room as they created multiple scoring opportunities. Bank of Baroda forwards Sanket and Ishant missed two golden opportunities to extend their side’s advantage.

Air India managed to level the score in the 31st minute after being on the back foot for the first half an hour of the game. The Simon D’Souza-coached side won a corner and Nathan de Rozaria put a cross into the box from a short pass. Anup Nair headed home the equalizer.

Just before the break, Bank of Baroda had another chance to take lead. Rakshit Pillai put a cross into the box but Denzil failed to put the ball into the net.

Both the teams went into the tunnel after a vigorous first half which ended with a score of 1-1.

Air India started the second half in an aggressive manner. Just after the restart, Abhinav Sebastian took a shot but it was deflected by a Bank of Baroda defender and went away. A couple of minutes later, Sandesh Malpote tested the Bank of Baroda goalkeeper, but the latter came out strong and saved it confidently.

Bank of Baroda doubled their lead in the 55th minute. The Bank of Baroda forwards, on a counter-attack, managed to went past Air India’s defense and Hardik Bhatt beat the goalkeeper to score his team’s second.

Seven minutes later, Hardik scored his brace and his team’s third goal of the game. Dikshant Kottary played a pass into the box and Hardik found the back of the net by beating the keeper in a 1v1 position.

Denzil scored his second of the game in the 68th minute with a cross from the right flank and made it 4-1.

Bank of Baroda’s 5th goal was scored by Mohammed Kaatib in the 70th minute. A cross from the left-hand channel flew into the box and Mohammad was there to tap it in.

2 minutes before the end of the regulation time, Rakshit registered his name on the scoresheet and scored the sixth goal of the game for Bank of Baroda.

The referee blew the final whistle as Bank of Baroda secured a massive 6-1 win over Air India with the help of a great second half.
