Ashley Koli leads Jamshedpur FC to maiden victory in Durand Cup 2023

A pivotal headed goal by Ashley Koli in the 70th minute propelled Jamshedpur FC to a triumphant performance, garnering all three crucial points against the Indian Navy squad.
Jamshedpur FC marked a significant milestone in the Durand Cup 2023 by clinching their first victory, prevailing 1-0 over the Indian Navy Football Team at the Mohun Bagan Ground in Kolkata on Thursday.
From the opening whistle, both teams intended to attack, seeking to establish an early lead. In the 39th minute, Jamshedpur FC was presented with a prime opportunity through a penalty, yet Lalriathpuia Chawngthu’s attempt was thwarted by Indian Navy goalkeeper Robinson. The first half concluded in a balanced deadlock, with neither side able to break through.
Emerging from the halftime break with renewed determination, Jamshedpur FC wasted no time in creating chances. Asem Maingou Singh narrowly missed a golden opportunity in the 55th minute, immediately followed by a swift counter-attack by the Indian Navy team that was skillfully halted by Pallujam Rohan Singh on the goal line.
A shift in momentum occurred when Jamshedpur FC’s goalkeeper Ayush Jena was replaced by Mohit Singh Dhami in the 57th minute due to injury. The turning point arrived in the 70th minute, as Ashley Koli’s precise header found the back of the net, tilting the game in Jamshedpur FC’s favor.
Demonstrating resilience and determination, the youthful Men of Steel defended their lead until the final whistle, securing their inaugural victory in the Durand Cup 2023. Jamshedpur FC now sets their sights on a showdown with Mohammedan Sporting in their upcoming fixture on August 20th at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
