MFA Elite Corporate League: Mumbai Customs, HDFC Bank share the spoils

Dhaval Waghela’s second-half strike rescued a point for Mumbai Customs against HDFC Bank on Saturday, 28 May 2022.

The game started with much anticipation from both sides. In the opening quarter of the game, the defenses of both teams were thwarting each other’s attacks.

Mumbai Customs’ resistance was finally broken in the 24th minute when Karsten D’Souza broke the deadlock and gave HDFC Bank the lead. Shivam Yadav With a brilliant assist, Karsten finished it off near the first post and made it 1-0.

Mumbai Customs had a golden opportunity to level the scoring after HDFC took the lead. Pramod Galave put a lofty ball into the final third, Hekmat Singh put his head to it but it went wide.

Mumbai Customs couldn’t find the equaliser as HDFC Bank went to the dressing room with a slender 1-0 lead at the break.

After the breather, the Cedric Fernandes-coached side looked more lethal in the final third and gave their all to level the score.

In the 61st minute, Mumbai Customs made their pressure count as Dhaval Waghela pulled his side level. From the left flank, Ajinkya Birajdar put a cross into the box and Dhaval tapped it home to make it 1-1.

After the score leveled, HDFC started putting a lot of pressure but Mumbai Customs deny them taking the lead. Moments before the end of regulation time, HDFC had a huge chance to take the lead. Pragnesh Solanki put a good ball in but Titus Uttankar missed a sitter from close range.

In extra time, the game temperature was skyrocketing. Niyajahamad Patel was shown a red card (second yellow) for a double-footed challenge on an opposition player.

In the dying moments, Pragnesh tested the Mumbai Customs goalkeeper, but the latter made a good save to keep the score at 1-1.

The referee blew the final whistle as Mumbai Customs held HDFC Bank to salvage a point.
