This unique competition brought together veteran footballers aged 40 and above, celebrating not just the spirit of the game but also the enduring camaraderie among its seasoned players.

This memorial cup was conceived from a place of deep personal tribute. It was organized by Joe Miranda, the owner of MYJ FC, with support from Colin’s Cafe, who sought to honor his true friend, Adi, whose passing left a profound void. The tournament stands as a testament to their bond and Adi’s lasting impact on those around him.

The inaugural Adi Memorial Cup proved to be a memorable affair, drawing a star-studded lineup of veteran players and graced by two chief guests of the highest calibre – India International Players – Ashutosh Mehta, who currently plays for Jamshedpur FC, and Bryce Miranda, a key player for Inter Kashi. The pitches were alive with the skills of familiar names, including the Mumbai Legend Steven Dias, known as “the Indian Beckham” for his spectacular free kicks with 51 appearances for the Indian National Team and currently the Head Coach of Jamshedpur FC Reserves. Joining him on the field was Paresh Shivalkar, who represented Maharashtra 9 times, captaining three of them, a former I-League player notable for his time with Mumbai FC, among other esteemed veterans.

In a thrilling culmination to the tournament, OS-Chembur emerged victorious, clinching the championship title. This was their 10th Final in the last eleven tournaments.

Their winning lineup featured a formidable blend of talent, including Monish Bhamre, Hekmat Singh, Vijith Shetty, and the celebrated Steven Dias, Paresh Shivalkar, and Santosh Koli – all National and I-League players. Steven Dias’s exceptional performance in the final earned him the Man of the Match award. Spartans FC secured the runners-up position after a closely fought battle against OS-Chembur in the finale.

Individual brilliance was also recognized during the event. OS-Chembur’s Santosh Koli was deservedly crowned the Player of the Tournament for his outstanding display of skills throughout the competition. In recognition of his crucial saves and commanding presence, OS-Chembur’s goalkeeper Atif Ansari was adjudged the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Nigel D’Souza from Spartans FC received the Best Defender award from the tournament for his exceptional work at the back.

The Adi Memorial Cup served as a heartfelt tribute, uniting veteran players in a celebration of shared passion and enduring friendships, all while honouring the legacy of Aditya ‘Adi’ Venkataraman. It was a day where memories were cherished, and the love for football continued to shine brightly among its most experienced exponents.

The inaugural Hashu Advani Centennial Cup 2025, affiliated with the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) and organized by VES Academy (VESSA) Chembur, witnessed an exciting showcase of Mumbai’s top footballing talent. The tournament featured eight elite teams from Mumbai’s football leagues, competing for the prestigious title.

The competition followed a group-stage format, with teams divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group advanced to the semi-finals, where MYJ, Union Bank of India, Bank of India, and Kalina Rangers emerged as the best of the lot.

Final Showdown & Champions Crowned

In a thrilling final match, Union Bank of India dominated Kalina Rangers with a resounding 3-0 victory, etching their name in history as the first-ever winners of the Hashu Advani Centennial Cup. Kalina Rangers finished as runners-up, while MYJ and Bank of India shared third place honors.

The tournament was held in the fond memory of late Mr Scott Dsouza, who left for his heavenly abode in October 2020 while playing.

D’Souza played for the Central Bank and Elite Division clubs like Union Bank and Air India. He also represented India at international futsal competitions in China and Brazil with his former team Kalina Rangers.

Out of the 40 teams that took part, team Mean Machine won, and Juhu Akers became the Runners Up.

“One of the best tournaments we have played in the recent time. Very well organized and handled by the committee of (FC Cecilians) it was a pleasure being a part of the Scott Memorial Cup and competing with all the top teams of Mumbai, All the best for the future.”, said Jorden Creado (Juhu Akers)

“After ages, we played a tournament which was organized well. It was gracious for Gordon to invite us to this tournament. This is the best tribute to our beloved Scott. I was lucky to share the pitch with Scott, and it is hard for me to explain the reverence and resolution he flared on the field. He is forever in our hearts, and I dedicate this win to him.”, said Yashasvi, Captain of Mean Machine.

David bagged the ‘Best Player’ award, Yashasvi Singh won the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ award. The ‘Golden Boot’ was jointly rewarded to Karan Khanna and Troy D’souza. Siddesh won the ‘Emerging Player’ award and the ‘Fair Play’ award was given to Ace FC.

The tournament was graced by Mr Raynier Fernandes, who plays for the Indian national team and ISL based Mumbai City FC.

The next edition of this championship will be held on 29-30th October 2022.

The tournament had a successful start in its Mumbai leg before the Covid – 19 pandemic broke out in the country which caused the planned rest of Maharashtra tour of the tournament to be halted. The organizers have promised to return post the lockdown period when it would be declared safe to carry out sporting activities.

The tournament was an initiative to unearth hidden talents on field, identify them and give them a platform to become next big thing in Football. IKF was launched on the 26^th of January this year, with much fanfare conducting 3 Tournaments across Mumbai in the following month of February. The first leg was played at Mulund followed by the 2^nd leg at Kurla and the last one at Chembur. The A and B team of Ambitious FC won at the Mulund & Kurla Leg while Funky Boys won the Chembur Leg.

Ambitious ‘B’ emerged champions of Mulund Leg

A total of 48 teams participated in the Mumbai leg of the tournament. The winners of these Mumbai Legs will be facing the champions from Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Gondia, Satara, Thane & Palghar leg in the final tournament to be held later on in the year. Winner of this Finale will be trained by IKF and taken for an all expense paid trip to Europe. There they will face U14 teams of top tier clubs. These kids will attend trials and if they display enough talent, they stand a chance of signing for a club with Professional contracts.

Ambitious ‘A’ emerged champions of Kurla Leg

Tournaments in remaining districts will happen as soon as lockdown is lifted. Official Spokesperson of IKF, Rohan Shinde said “We invite clubs and academies in Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Gondia, Satara, Thane and Palghar to contact us and register with us in advance. We accept only 16 teams in every district and had to turn away many teams in Mumbai. Since we are providing a right platform to them to reach Europe that too free of cost. This makes us a very sought after tournament. Whenever lock-down is lifted we will go to these districts and conduct our tournament there and scout for exciting talent.”

The 24th late Ramnath Payyade memorial final was a keenly contested by the experienced Satya Vijaya SC and a young Karnatak SC. The first half was end to end action with the defence on both sides standing strong. Satya Vijaya came out strong in the second half.

The first goal of the game came in the 31^st minute when a long throw by Satya Vijaya’s Nishant Shetty into the opposite box caused a melee before an experienced Dane Pereira flicked the ball over the goalkeeper to give Satya Vijaya the lead.

Satya Vijaya then dominated the game and soon doubled the lead in the 50^th minute after their striker Tushar Poojary latched on to a ball at the edge of the box before unleashing a powerful right footed shot that ended in the top right corner.

Karnatak SC tried their best to hit back with wave of attacks of their own however Satya Vijaya keeper Yatish Shetty stood strong producing some world class saves to deny his opponents. Satya VIjaya made it 3-0 after a miss understanding between the defender and goalkeeper allowed striker Dane Pereira to capitalise and win the ball before slotting it past the keeper to put the game to bed.

Final:

Satya Vijaya SC (Dane Pereira 31’, 59’, Tushar Poojary 50’) 3 – 0 Karnatak SC

Third place: 

Karnataka Amateurs SC (Shravan Shetty) 1 – 0 Udaya SC

The Soccer Academy held their nerves and did well to score through the efforts of Krish Karpan, Aamir Shaikh and Vansh Wadhwa, while Sacred Heart scored through Aryan Pangerkar and Vighnesh Kasturi. Mohammad Ali Kitekar of The Soccer Academy was named ‘Player of the match’.

In another last 8 encounter, FC Vigour and Total Football Academy played out a goalless draw in normal time. But, FC Vigour went on to defeat Total Football Academy 4-1 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-final. Daksh Waghela, Sujal Bhat, Manthan Waghela and Sameer Edareehi, all successful converted from the penalty spot to seal FC Vigyour’s win, while only Prince D’Souza could score for the losing side. Sujal Bhat of FC Vigour was declared ‘Player of the match’.
