Western Railway wins Bronze in 74th All-India Inter Railway Championship
29th March 2018, Mumbai: In the recently concluded 74th All-India Inter Railway Football Championship, held at Kapurthala (Punjab), Western Railway ended up winning the bronze medal in what was a terrific campaign for the Mumbai-based football club. It was Eastern Railway’s year, from Kolkata, who won the championship by defeating the home side RCF Kapurthala (Punjab) in the final.
This was Western Railway’s fourth podium finish in the last six editions and all the plaudits must be given to Coach Vinoy PV who have made this Railway side strong and very competent. It was his man-management and tactical nous which earned him a total of four medals in the last six years which also included a winners medal.

In one of Western Railway’s game, Mervin Stephens scored four times and Kenistan bagged a solitary goal in a whopping 5-1 triumph over Chitranjan Locomotive Work. An exhilarating attacking display which blew away their counterpart.
It was in the 71st All-India Inter Railway Football Championship when Western Railway went all the way to lift the trophy, defeating South Eastern Railway 5-4 in penalties at SERSA Stadium. The match had ended 1-1 in the normal time and 2-2 after the extra-time which took the final into the penalty shootout. Coach Vinoy PV’s side came agonizingly close to defend their title in the following season but they had to settle for the silver medal.
