Mumbai Port Trust beat Sea View SC to meet ESIC in Div-I final

Mumbai, May 1: Mumbai Port Trust came up with solid fighting performance as they recovered for an early deficit to overcome Sea View SC 2-1 in a hard-fought First Division semi-final match of the Mumbai District Football Association League 2016-2017, and played at St. Xavier’s ground, Parel.

Sea View took an early lead when Gana Prasad Akula against the run of play scored the opening goal of the match in the 12th minute. But, the determined Port Trust side fought back and scored twice in the second half through Rajesh Goswami (48 minutes) and Siddharth Koli (62nd minute) to clinch a deserving win and a place in the final.

In the second semi-final, ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) got the better of St. Paul’s SC 6-5 via the sudden death tie-breaker penalty shootout after full time ended in a goalless draw.

Results – Div-I (semi-finals): Mumbai Port Trust 2 (Rajesh Goswami, Siddharth Koli) beat Sea View SC 1 (Gana Prasad Akula)

ESIC 6 (Aditya Kerkar, Nikhil karkera, Melwin Castelino, Nikhil D’Souza, Abhishek Mishra, Kartik Bele) beat St. Paul’s 5 (Judon D’Souza, Arnold Saldanha, Marshal Fernandes, Swapnil Mhatre, Nixon Rodrigues) via the sudden death tie-breaker.
