Late heartbreak for MYJ-GM as Hope United snatch dramatic draw

In a tense Mumbai Premier League clash, Hope United’s injury-time equalizer secured a 1-1 draw against MYJ-GM, providing a crucial point in their pursuit of the title.
Coming in to the game, the stakes were high as Hope United and MYJ-GM both had an opportunity to reshape the Mumbai Premier League standings. Hope United entered the contest with a chance to claim the top spot, needing a victory to leapfrog the current leaders India on track FC. Conversely, MYJ-GM, the defending champions, were determined to narrow the gap, knowing that three points would leave them tantalizingly close to the summit, just one point adrift.
The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. The score remained 0-0 at the break as both sides went with a cautious approach.
Second half started with mighty lions taking to attack quickly, a corner routine saw skipper Kamlesh finding the net with a pinpoint header within minutes of the restart. However tension escalated when the goal was disallowed as referee spotted a foul inside the box, much to the disappointment of the defending champions.
In the 71st minute, MYJ-GM finally broke the deadlock. Kamlesh drove forward with purpose, executing a quick one-two with Kamran before surging into the box. He then delivered a pinpoint low cross across the D to the far post, where an onrushing Shamer tapped home the opener, sparking celebrations from the MYJ-GM faithful.
Hope United pushed for an equalizer, but their efforts were often thwarted by a resolute MYJ-GM defense. In the 80th minute, Hope United sent a shot sailing over the bar, as the frustration grew. In the 90th minute, MYJ-GM’s Palash was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for time-wasting, leaving his team to defend with ten men.
The drama reached its peak in the 12th minute of added time. A cross from the right deflected goalward, falling just below Umesh’s boots. In a moment of sheer misfortune, Umesh’s attempted clearance failed as the ball became lodged between his boot and the ground. An alert Asad was quick to respond to the opportunity striking past the keeper for a simple equalizer, leaving MYJ-GM stunned.
The draw does not alter the league standings. Hope United remains in second place, level on 11 points with IOT but trailing on goal difference. MYJ-GM stays in fourth place, level on 8 points with third-placed Kalina Rangers but also behind on goal difference, as the race for playoff positions intensifies.
