Mumbai Super League – Playoff Round: India On Track, Bombay Gymkhana settle for a draw

In an intense MFA Super League playoff game, Vernon Koli's 2nd half goal for India on Track canceled out Saif Ali's 1st half goal for Bombay Gymkhana

In an intense playoff game of Mumbai Super League, Vernon Koli’s second half goal for India on Track FC canceled out Saif Ali’s goal in first half for Bombay Gymkhana

In a captivating showdown marking the commencement of the playoff round in the Mumbai Super League, India On Track (IOT) clashed with the formidable Bombay Gymkhana, both teams entering the encounter with unblemished records.

Early on, IOT’s Saurabh Nikam appeared to breach the opponent’s defense, finding the net, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside call, setting the stage for a closely contested affair.

IOT’s Anurag PC showcased his brilliance with a precision pass that sliced through Bombay Gymkhana’s defenders, setting up a potential scoring opportunity. However, the connection with IOT players was missed, leaving the scoreline unchanged. Saurabh Nikam, relentless in his pursuit, attempted a noteworthy shot, only to be denied by an exceptional save from the Bombay Gymkhana goalkeeper.

Responding with vigor, Bombay Gymkhana initiated their offensive push, with player number 19 seizing a moment of defensive lapse. Despite a golden opportunity, the IOT goalkeeper intervened, maintaining the stalemate. The deadlock was eventually broken by Bombay Gymkhana’s Ali, skillfully placing the ball into the top left corner, securing a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The second half witnessed an elevated intensity as IOT sought an equalizer. Early attempts, including a precise free kick from Rohan D’Souza to Nishant Chand, unfortunately, missed the mark. Persistence paid off when Danus Rajan maneuvered the ball inside the box, setting up Veron Koli, who successfully leveled the score at 1-1.

Bombay Gymkhana’s number 19 remained a constant threat, almost securing the lead with a shot inside the box, thwarted by an exceptional save from IOT’s keeper, Anish Chetty. Another opportunity arose, but the shot went over the target, marking a missed chance for Bombay Gymkhana.

As the game progressed, IOT dominated possession, with Leisemba’s brilliant shot striking the top bar, providing a tense moment for Bombay Gymkhana. However, the lack of finishing in the final third proved costly for India on Track.

In the final moments, Bombay Gymkhana strategically managed the game, securing a valuable point as the referee blew the final whistle. The closely contested 1-1 draw sets the stage for an exciting playoff journey in the Mumbai Super League.
