Central Railway script dramatic late comeback to edge ESIC 5-3
An inspired final 15 minutes of the game saw Central Railway come from two goals down to finally brush past the ESIC challenge, snatching all three points in Friday’s Elite Corporate league encounter.
Egypsio Noronha’s first-half hat-trick went in vain as ESIC conceded a two-goal lead in the final 15 minutes of the game to go down 5-3 to a spirited Central Railway outfit.
After an even early exchange it was ESIC who broke the deadlock when in the 8th minute of the game, Egypsio beat the offside trap to latch on to a cross from right-wing, before finishing it past the hapless keeper to make it 1-0. ESIC continued with their attacking intent and around the half-hour mark, Malcolm Blakely chipped a ball over the CR defense to find an unmarked Egypsio, whose shot once again beat the keeper the doubled the lead.
With two goals lead, ESIC looked to press harder however Railways responded quickly with a counter-attacking move that ended with Shahbaz Pathan’s shot finding the net to the near post. As the game veered to the first half end, a mistake from CR defense allowed Egypsio to capitalize on as he found the net again to complete a well-deserved hat-trick.
The second half began in a cagey affair as both sides looked to grab control of the match. Despite the continuous effort by the Railway men, ESIC defense looked strong with their challenges and offside traps. However as the game entered its final 15 minutes, Arun K. managed to fool the ESIC offside trap to find himself in space unmarked as he finished off the move to make it 2-3 still in favor of ESIC.
In the 84th minute, however, Railways scored the equalizer when Manoj Kumar found himself at the end of Shahbaz Pathan’s cross to find the net. The late comeback completely took the sting out of the ESIC attack as Central Railway continued to grow in confidence and continued to attack.
A minute before the end of normal time, Sajandeep Singh found himself on the scoresheet as CR took the lead for the first time in the game. Before turning provider, in the final minutes of the game, his cross from the right was expertly chested down by Chetan Waghela before shooting past the keeper to double the lead and put the game to bed.
FT: ESIC (Egypsio Noronha 8’, 32’, 45+2’) 3 – 5 Central Railways (Shahbaz Pathan 37’, Arun K. 76’, Manoj Kumar 84’, Sajandeep Singh 89’, Chetan Waghela 90+4’)
