Transfer Update: After Lobera, Mumbai City rope in Mandar from FC Goa

Besides Mandar Rao Desai, Islanders are also trying to bring in Ahmed Jahouh and Mourtada Fall as new coach Sergio Lobera looks to recreate his Goan magic with Mumbai

Mumbai City FC are leaving no stone unturned in trying to create a champions team for next season. The Club has signed Spanish boss Sergio Lobera with proven records in India to replace Jorge Costa, who parted with the Islanders after two seasons at the helm. The Islanders are now trying to bring in former Gaurs, who have been part of FC Goa’s three semi-finals runs under Lobera.

Indian International and former FC Goa left back Mandar Rao Desai has now reportedly agreed to a three year deal with Islanders. Despite being offered a new three year contract from FC Goa management as well, Mandar decided to move to Mumbai following the footsteps of his former coach. It was at Goa and under Lobera that Mandar touched his peak even making it to the National Team.

“It’s a done deal. The coach has already submitted a list of players that he is keen to have with him at Mumbai. While there is no compulsion on Mumbai to sign whoever he recommends, those that are tried and tested here will surely find favour,” a senior official told The Times of India on Tuesday.

It is also been reported that Moroccan midfielder Ahmed Jahouh and Senegalese defender Mourtada Fall have also been approached by the Mumbai based ISL outfit. Jahouh in particular can be a vital signing for Mumbai with the midfielder playing a perfect partner for retained Paulo Machado in boosting Mumbai’s attacking options. The Moroccan has been reportedly offered a 5.2 Cr. contract for a 2 year period. Meanwhile Mourtada Fall is still mulling over offers from Qatari clubs and is yet to decide over his future club.

Mumbai City FC were recently acquired by City Football Group and it seems like they do not want to waste any time in building the team up for next season with early transfer activities and some big name signings.
