Nadkarni Cup: Iron Born hold Atlanta FC 0-0 draw

The opening game of 2019 Rustomjee - MDFA Nadkarni Cup kicked off on 21st August with a goal less draw between Iron Born and Atlanta FC

The opening game of 2019 Rustomjee – MDFA Nadkarni Cup kicked off on 21st August with a goal less draw between Iron Born and Atlanta FC

Played at Cooperage ground, Churchgate, the inaugural game of 2019 Rustomjee – MDFA Nadkarni Cup saw Group A side Iron Born – CFCI lock horns against Atlanta FC.

In a rather cagey affair, both sides played out a goal less draw. Iron Born – CFCI looked the better side going forward, stitching up some good moves in the middle of the park, only for their profligate strikers to miss the chances coming their way.

The best moment of the game came in the second half that saw Atlanta keeper pull off a good save off a dangerous free-kick to deny Iron Born a lead. Things got interesting during the dying minutes of the game, when Atlanta’s Prashant Anchan was given the marching orders for pulling the jersey of his opponent. He had earlier picked up the yellow card in the game.

With a man advantage, Iron Born – CFCI pushed forward in search of a winner. However, Atlanta FC stood resolutely to hold their defence as the match ended in a goal less draw with both sides sharing a point each.

The next two match of the tournament will be played on August 23rd between the other Group A sides – KSA vs Century Rayon, and in Group B, Elite Division champions Mumbai Customs vs Bank of Baroda.
