Indian Women’s team determined to bounce back against Uzbekistan

NEW DELHI: The Indian Senior Women’s National Team will face Uzbekistan on Monday (September 2, 2019) in their second International Friendly at the Yakkasary Stadium in Tashkent. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 5.30 pm IST.

Head coach Maymol Rocky maintained her team is “determined” to overturn the previous scoreline and clinch a victory against the hosts. “Of course, the result in the first game was not satisfactory. However, we have put it behind us and the team is now focusing on the next match. We started preparing immediately and we are all determined to go all out and get the win this time around,” Maymol said.

In the first friendly on Friday (August 30), the Indian side lost the lead and the match went down in favor of Uzbekistan by 1-5. It was India, ranked 57 in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, that took the lead but it was overturned by the hosts, who are in 44th place on the rankings. In the fifth minute, Bala Devi had found the net for India. However, Uzbekistan fought back and eventually went on to win — scoring twice in the first half, and thrice in the second.

“We began the game on a good note and scored first. We created a number of chances early on but could not convert,” Maymol commented. “However, Uzbekistan are a strong side and they made the most of their scoring opportunities,” she concluded.
