Durand Cup: Indian Navy failed to clinch a victory against ATK

05/08/2019, VYBK Stadium, Kolkata: The oldest tournament in Asia, the Durand Cup hosted the 2 times ISL champions, ATK and the Indian Navy on their 3rd matchday.

During the starting moments, the Indian Navy was quite dominant against the young ATK side. Soon, the Indian Navy launched a prolific attack which resulted in their favour. At the 19th minute, the Navy outfit drew the first blood. Harikrishna AU netted the goal to give them the breathing space and continue their dominance. ATK put efforts to turn the tide but the scoreboard flashed the same result until the Half-Time.

As the second half started, Avilash Paul, the goalkeeper of ATK saved several goal-scoring chances created by the Indian Navy. The match was going on Navy’s favour until the dying moments where team ATK gained a penalty. Prabir Das, the captain of the ISL outfit rose to the occasion and equalised the scoring tally at the 88th minute.

The match concluded as a 1-1 draw. Ironically, VYBK hosted two army outfits on the same day, at different timings and both the teams were very close to winning. On the other side of the coin, the two opposition ISL teams saved their day by converting penalties at the dying moments of their respective games.

Team Indian Navy will play against Mohammedan SC on 10th August in the Mohun Bagan ground. ATK will lock horns against Mohun Bagan at the same venue on 8th August.
