Durand Cup: Bengaluru FC restricts the Army Reds from tasting victory!

05/08/2019, Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata: The 3rd encounter of the 129th edition of the majestic Durand Cup saw Bengaluru FC locking horns against the Army Reds. The match concluded 1-1.
Bengaluru FC had their debut match in the Durand Cup. Whereas the Army Reds faced off the Quess East Bengal a few days back, at their backyard, losing to them. Bengaluru FC, one of the most professional clubs in Indian football and the current ISL champions fielded their reserves side consisting mostly of the U-18 players.
The match kicked off well for both the sides. It was an end to end game but the Army Reds launched more attacks into the opposition’s half. As the clock was approaching the 45th mark, just before the teams would walk down the tunnel, Liton Shil of the Army Reds tapped in a low cross assist of Sunil B from the right flank. The Half Time saw the Army Reds outfit entering the tunnel with a solitary goal lead.
The second off commenced with a lot of intent from the young Bengaluru side. The Blues were attacking in numbers and tried to muddle the Army defence. The swift attacking displays from the Blues didn’t bear the fruits until the dying moments when the team gained a penalty. Namgyal Bhutia of Bengaluru FC was pulled down by Suresh Mettei, the Army Reds defender. The Blue’s new signing, Suresh Wangjam guided the ball back into the net to level terms with the Army Reds.
The match ended on an equal note, with both the sides scoring one goal each.
Army Reds will face Jamshedpur FC in their next clash on 9th August at the Kalyani Stadium. Bengaluru FC will play against Quess East Bengal on 14th August at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Stadium, Salt Lake, Kolkata!
