Chennaiyin conclude Durand campaign on equal terms against Indian Airforce

18th August 2019, Mohun Bagan Ground, Kolkata: The two times ISL champions, Chennaiyin FC played the last match of their Durand Cup campaign

18th August 2019, Mohun Bagan Ground, Kolkata: The two times ISL champions, Chennaiyin FC played the last match of their Durand Cup campaign against the Indian Airforce today. Both the teams left the field on equal terms concluding the match as a draw.

Within the starting ten minutes, Chennaiyin were dominating the match. At the 5th minute, Rohmingthanga’s left-footed effort rattled the post. Soon, Indian Airforce started gaining momentum. The Airforce outfit received several free-kicks from crucial zones which they failed to capitalize. Rohmingthanga who is renowned as Manga was the only spark on the pitch till the starting 45 minutes. The half time concluded on level terms.

The second half commenced seeing Indian Airforce trying to play wide and put crosses from the flanks. They came quite close to scoring on many instances but failed to break the deadlock at the end. Chennaiyin’s dominant start faded and they couldn’t come back into the match ever since. The last whistle of the match saw both the teams entering the tunnel with nothing to rejoice. The scoreline remained unchanged and thus Chennaiyin and the Airforce outfit conclude their Durand Cup journey this year.

Gokulam Kerala FC has qualified from Group D for Semi-Finals. They will lock horns against East Bengal on 21st August at the VYBK Stadium from 3:00 PM.
