Mohun Bagan trump Indian Navy before Semis!
17th August 2019, VYBK, Kolkata: Mohun Bagan played their final group fixture against Indian Navy today before they play the Semi-Finals of the coveted Durand Cup.
The Mariners set the mood since the starting minute as they dominated the game. They received several goal-scoring opportunities via free kicks which they failed to capitalize at the end. Mohun Bagan’s SK Faiaz and Subha Ghosh played a crucial role upfront in clinching the opportunities. The first half concluded having both the sides enter the tunnel with nothing to feel good about.
The second half commenced and soon Mohun Bagan broke the deadlock. At the 55th minute, Dalraj Singh of Indian Navy made a mistimed challenge on SK Faiaz who was brought down inside the box. The referee signalled penalty. Fran Gonzalez rose to the occasion and drew the first blood for the Mariners. Indian Navy tried to get back from behind but was feeble in their attempts. The match concluded seeing the 16 times title holders, Mohun Bagan having the last laugh. The scoreboard displayed 1-0 after the last whistle was blown.
Indian Navy conclude their journey in the 129th edition of the historic tournament. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan has qualified and will play against Real Kashmir in the Semi-Final. The teams will face off on 21st August from 7:30 PM at the VYBK Stadium.
