Sahil Tavora becomes first Indian to score in Portuguese League

The Goan, who just last month signed for a Portuguese 4th Division side GDSC Alvarenga, came up with a late winner for his side.
Sahil Tavora who had earlier represented teams like FC Goa and Mumbai City FC in Indian Super League became the first Indian Footballer to score a goal in Portuguese football League.
Signing for the Portuguese side GDSC Alvarenga this September, the youngster’s late goal turned out to be the winner for his side. This was Sahil’s fourth start in the GDSC Alvarenga playing XI and the young midfielder has impressed the side playing full 90 minutes and with a recent goal to his name. The club currently stands at 10th spot with 7 points from 5 games that had 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw.
“I was happy to score the first goal. It was symbolic because playing in Europe, in this case in Portugal, was an old dream. When I arrived here in September, I was supported and cherished by the entire structure of Alvarenga, which motivated me to do my best to keep the team at the top of the table” stated the 22 year old speaking to the Portuguese media AFA TV.
Speaking about the club and football in Portugal, the young midfielder stated, “Here, football is more physical and faster. I think I’m adapting easily and I feel the team is on the right track. We have conditions to make a good championship, but we have to think game by game.”
It’s been less than a month since signing for his recent club and the youngster has managed to gain regular playing time. Considering all the Indian players who had short stints abroad this seems like an encouraging sign for all Indian fans.
