Mumbai, January 29, 2019: A concentration lapse cost Wellington Catholic Gym the game against Juhu Sparks at the Neville D’Souza Ground on Tuesday.

Nickinson Misquitta scored the winner for Juhu in the 94th minute after a mix-up in the Wellington defence.

Wellington had led through Rishar Kotian’s goal in the 11th minute and had matched Juhu in every department.

Juhu’s golden boy Tyson Pereira sped through the right flank and hit home the equalizer in the 13th minute!

Pereira’s intelligent passing and excellent switching between flanks gave Wellington ample problems.

Ajinkya Birajdar’s superb defending didn’t allow Wellington to bounce back into the game.

Wellington did have their positives as Diptiman Prusty and Innocent Fernandes put in a workhorse performance.

Juhu’s high-pressing game cut off space for Wellington who never really looked in the game after Pereira’s goal. The first half finished at 1-1 with Juhu having the lions share of possession.

Wellington showed more energy and enthusiasm in the second half as they went in search of a winner.

Nikhil Thavervittel expertly marshaled the right-flank to cut out Wellington’s supply.

Pereira had his Okocha moment as he beat a defender with a cheeky rainbow at the corner flag!

He was Juhu’s best player of the game as he probed Wellington with defence-splitting passes.

Wellington was content at not conceding!

They did have two good chances only for Fernandes and Kaustubh Panchal to be denied by some good defending.

Juhu built on the pressure with every passing minute; Mahesh Kotkar, Pereira and Rawat tested the Wellington goalkeeper with a series of rasping shots.

A horrible mix-up in the Wellington back-line allowed Nickinson Misquitta to slot home the winner in the 94th minute!

Mumbai, 28th January 2019: CFCI U-19 turned on the style to demolish Veniza Virar FC 5-1 in their MDFA Super Division Game at the Neville D’Souza Ground on Monday.

CFCI was rock-solid at the back and it showed in the final score.

The signs were already there as Leander Gonsalves almost scored with a blaster from 30 yards out!

Veniza had two good chances gone to waste in the first-half. Shantanu Gaikwad’s shot from the left of the box whizzed past the far post. Andre Fernandes lobbed over from 20 yards out.

Shreyas Sail hit home a header in the 32nd minute to give CFCI the lead. Punishment for wastefulness!

Manan Dang impressed for CFCI thanks to a rock-solid performance in midfield.

Shivansu Rao doubled the lead with a long-range shot in the 44th minute.

Lekhraj Kotian chipped in from the left of the box in the 47th minute to reduce the arrears for Veniza.

Mikail Kazi scored off a corner in the 58th minute to make it 3-1. The bubble of optimism had burst for Veniza!

Aman Manghi’s 40-yard sprint into the Veniza box had the crowd on its feet! A pity he could not apply the desired finish!

Manghi’s pace on the right flank caused Veniza’s defenders all sorts of problems. They were on their toes throughout!

Armasah Ansari thumped in a superb shot from outside the box to make it 4-1.

Ashley Koli’s freekick cannoned off the post and almost made it five for CFCI.

Gaikwad’s missed header from inside the box was one of the very few chances that Venezia had.

Saif Bagkari’s goal off a deflected shot made it 5-1 in the 87th minute. He had battered his way into the box to leave the goalkeeper for dead!

Michael Gabriel’s tireless performance was a huge plus for Veniza.

Mumbai, 28th January, 2019: Dinesh Kataria and Sunny Amin were on song as Springfield FA beat RBI 2-0 in their MDFA Super Division game at the Neville D’souza Ground on Monday.

The early part of the game was a midfield battle as both teams played it safe.

Springfield almost broke the deadlock if it weren’t for Arman Jirait’s miss from close range.

But then they drew first blood as Dinesh Kataria clinically finished off a fine move in the 35th minute.

RBI despite working hard throughout was still playing catch up till half-time.

Getting past the Springfield back-line was proving to be a task in itself!

They did have their chances in the second half as Aaron Machado’s shot hit the underside of the bar.

Rohit Pillai — RBI’s best player of the game — missed out on scoring off the rebound!

Springfield counterattacked and scored a second as Sunny Amin darted into the box and smashed home from a tight angle in the 45th minute.

Jirait was a thorn in RBI’s flesh as he harried their defenders with pace and intelligent passing. He almost made it three-nil only for his shot to go over the bar. RBI pressed on for a consolation goal…but in vain.

The 2-0 scoreline was justified in the end as Springfield scored when it mattered the most.

The game had two water breaks thanks to the unrelenting heat which had sapped off the players.

What a final! It lived up to the hype as Pune extracted a measure of revenge by beating defending champions Mumbai in a penalty shootout.

The game started and ended with Tushar Durga – undoubtedly the player of the tournament. The 2019 Wifa Inter-District Championship Sub-Junior Boys is hosted by the Western India Football Federation (WIFA) and Jalgaon District Football Association (JDFA).

Pinch Jeera Masala, Stamina Apple Fizzy Fruit Drink, Mahaveer Classes, Jain Irrigation Systems Pvt. Ltd, WIFA, Jain Sports Academy, Meera Cola and Pride are the major sponsors.

Flying headers, red cards, penalties…the final was an absolute thriller! Pune got off to a flier when Tushar Durga hit home a superb header in the 2nd minute. Mumbai bounced back in the 21st minute when Craig Daniel Salve’s pinpoint cross was headed in by Aryan Mahadeshwar.

They were down to ten-men when Viju Pawar was given his marching orders at the stroke of half-time. The first yellow card was for a foul on Durga while a second was for un-parliamentary conduct. Mumbai took the lead when Salve’s superb run into the box allowed him to stab home a pass in the 55th minute.

But Pune made it 2-2 in the 56th minute as Venkat Navin outjumped three defenders and thumped in an unstoppable header.

Navin almost got a third for Pune only for his long-ranged shot to go over the bar. Full marks to Mumbai who defended well despite the numerical disadvantage. But as penalties beckoned…it proved to be a bit too much for them.

Salve ironically had his spot-kick saved!  Mohd. Kaif Ansari also fluffed his lines from the spot for Mumbai. Surely it was poetic justice that Durga converted his spot-kick to give Pune a 4-2 win.

Mr. Yogesh Pardeshi (Shiv Chattrapati Shivaji Awardee for Carom) was the chief guest for the final. Dr. Anita Kolhe (joint secretary, JDFA) and Mr. Farooq Shaikh (secretary, JDFA) gave away the respective trophies and awards to the players and officials.

They gave a congratulatory speech as to how the tournament was a blessing for the state of Jalgaon and aspiring footballers.

Pune – 2 (Tushar Durga (2’), Venkat Navin (56’)); Mumbai – 2 (Aryan Mahadeshwar (21’), Craig Daniel Salve (55’))

Penalties: Pune won 4-2 on penalties

Pune – (Venkat Navin (scored), Rajwardhan Patil (scored), Usman Khan (scored), Tushar Durga (scored))

Mumbai — (Yohana Martin (scored), Craig Daniel Salve (missed), Mohd. Jaffer Mansoori (scored), Mohd. Kaif Ansari (missed))

Player of the game: Venkat Navin

Trivia:

  • 117 goals were scored in the tournament.
  • The tournament saw 17 yellow cards and one red card.
  • Kolhapur’s Sanket Medhe scored nine goals and was the highest goal-scorer.
  • Sanket Medhe, Utkarsh Mankar (Nagpur) and Mohd. Kaif Ansari scored more than three goals in a game.
  • Mumbai’s 11-0 win against Washim was the highest victory margin.
  • Kolhapur’s 9-0 win against Hingoli was the second-highest victory margin.

Eight games were played at the Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Zilla Krida Sankul Ground on Tuesday.

Amravati – 1 (Shaik Sufian (45’)) beat Gondia – 0

The fifth game involving Pune and Nashik was a close affair. Tushar Durga scored the winner for Pune in the 27th minute. Nashik goalkeeper Ashwin Pobbar stole the limelight with his incredible double save in the first-half.

Pune – 1 (Tushar Durga (27’) beat Nashik – 0

Thane beat Sangli in the seventh game. Sangli goalkeeper Sujal Pardesi saved a penalty in the first-half and kept Thane at bay with quick reflexes and smart positioning. Thane scored off a penalty in the 28th minute and also grabbed a late winner.

Thane – 2 (Shaunak Mahajan (28’), Amster Saldanha (49’) beat Sangli – 1 (Om Khade (41’))

Nagpur staged a superb comeback against Buldana in the final game. Utkarsh Mankar’s four goals gave the Boys in Orange a resounding 5-1 win. Buldana had opened the scoring but Mankar’s heroics put the game to bed.

In what was a football treat, spot-kicks and a last gasp winner held sway on Day 2 of the 2019 Wifa Inter-District Championship Sub-Junior Boys.

Seven games were played at the Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Zilla Krida Sankul Ground on Tuesday.

Jalgaon beat Aurangabad in what was the best game of the day. Last-gasp tackles, flying headers, incredible saves…the game had it all! As both teams resembled punch-drunk boxers Jalgaon delivered the knock-out blow. Ansar Patel’s free-kick winner in the 50th minute gave the Boys in Green a memorable win.

Jalgaon – 1 (Ansar Patel (50’) beat Aurangabad – 0

Ahmednagar – 3 (Yash Karale (31’), Joninum Mutha (40’), Rishab Mani (46’) beat Satara – 1 (Soham Ghadge (48’))

Sangli beat Jalna in the second game. Viraj Kharat’s early goal had given Jalna a first-half lead. But Sangli roared back in the second and scored through Om Khade and Asnain Rukandi. A volte-face given Sangli’s ragged first-half performance!

Sangli – 2 (Om Khade (31’), Asnain Rukandi (33’)) beat Jalna – 1 (Viraj Kharat (5’))

The third game involving Buldana and Yavatmal went to penalties. The game finished 1-1 in normal time; Buldana held their nerves and won 4-2 in the shootout. A superb free-kick by Yavatmal skipper Rishikesh Chandan is contender for goal of the tournament.

The fourth game was a watershed as Thane overpowered Beed by five goals. Beed played with only nine players due to player registration issues. All five goals had different scorers. Amster Saldanha was the standout player for Thane.

Thane – 5 (Tarang Koley (4’), Nikhil Shinde (6’), Manav Sharma (16’), Amster Saldanha (36’), Shaunak Mahajan (40’)) beat Buldana – 0

The sixth game was a cliff hanger as Nagpur beat Nandurbar in sudden-death. The game was 1-1 at the end of normal time. Milind Pansare and Rugved Shinde scored for Nagpur and Nandurbar respectively. Nandurbar missed their last three spot kicks to give Nagpur a 4-3 win.

  • Nagpur beat Nandurbar 4-3 in sudden-death

Nashik beat Dhule 2-0 in the final game. Varad Shinde and Shlok Bhalerao scored early in the first-half and ensured a walk in the park for Nashik. Dhule simply couldn’t cope with the attacking quality of Nashik.

On what was probably the lowest scoring day of the 2019 Wifa Inter-district Championship Sub-Junior Girls the three games only had 10 goals being scored among them

An anomaly given the goal-rush that happened during the first three days!

The 2019 Wifa Inter-District Championship Sub-Junior Girls is hosted by the Western India Football Association (WIFA) and Palghar FA. A clutch of teams from Maharashtra are vying for top-spot in what is essentially a knock-out format.

Thane’s 4-1 win against Beed was the highlight of the day. Excellent ball-distribution and team chemistry was Thane’s USP as they swept Beed aside. Early goals from Jhanvi Dhale and Vaishnavi Pokale seemed to have made it a no-contest. But Beed fought back after Sanchita Dinkar scored in the dying minutes of the first-half. Harshita Balakrishnan and Jhanvi Dhale struck late in the second-half to complete the formalities for Thane.

Thane – 4 (Jhanvi Dhale (2’, 49’), Vaishnavi Pokale (7’), Harshita Balakrishnan (41’) beat Beed – 1 (Sanchita Dinkar (23’))

The second game was ‘Battle of the Orange’ as Kolhapur downed a stubborn Ahmednagar. Though both teams battled it out physically still Kolhapur had the firepower to score thrice. Two goals from Samrudhi Katkole in either half coupled with Sanika Patil’s goal sealed the deal for Kolhapur. Two great saves from the custodian was the sole positive for Ahmednagar. It allowed them to not lose by a wider margin.

Kolhapur – 3 (Samrudhi Katkole (10’, 48’), Sanika Patil (46’) beat Ahmednagar – 0

Nashik dumped out Palghar with a superb team performance in the third and final game. Grishma Kothari was the star for Nashik as her two goals in either half gave them a 2-0 win. Nashik completely shut out Jenita Jaison and Arrchie D’souza to nullify Palghar’s attacking threat. Kothari’s first was a composed finish from the edge of the area while the second was a lob curled over the keeper into the net. Nashik defended well and scored when it mattered most to grab a deserving win.

Nashik – 2 (Grishma Kothari (21’, 33’) beat Palghar – 0

Though Day 4 was a low-key affair still we do hope to see loads of goals, solo efforts and glorious moments come Day 5 of the 2019 Wifa Inter-District Championship Sub-Junior Girls.

Football fans may recollect that Mr. Jurgen Wolf (Managing Director, Hafele South Asia) had announced Hafele India as the ‘official regional partner’ of FC Bayern Munich in May 2018.

That partnership was the green signal for Hafele to bring Bayern’s football legends for a ‘Meet and Greet’ event in India. It also gives one lucky fan an opportunity to travel to Germany to watch a game at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Special limited edition official merchandise would help fans connect with their favorite football heroes!

The association is a match made in heaven as both Hafele and Bayern (an 118-year old entity) represent the synergies of ‘heritage, leadership, teamwork, training, passion and innovation’. Hafele and Bayern have their roots in Southern Germany (Bavaria) and possess over nine decades of tradition, expertise and precision — traits which have helped create a leadership position.

Both entities are going from strength to strength. If Bayern’s USP is innovative game strategy then Hafele has expanded in India, Bangladesh and Sri-Lanka (their chief regional markets) with renowned expertise in Interior Functionalities. Hafele wants to support football lovers and players in India who miss out on opportunities despite their talent. They consider North-East woman football stars as budding talents who can make India proud.

Bayern legend Bixente Lizarazu will visit Delhi (India) on February 2019 and also later meet with the north-east woman football stars. Hafele would thank Mr. Amstrong Pame (Director Youth Affairs Sports, Manipur), Mr. RK Nimai (General Secretary, Eastern Sporting Union & Former IAS) and Mr. Sadananda Hamom (Legendary Manipuri actor and football lover) for their support and motivation. The north-east players are sponsored by Hafele for their meeting with Lizarazu.

The felicitation took place on January 14, 2019 at the Eastern Sporting Union Ground, Manipur.

Game one: Ghusalkar stars as Buldana romp past Pusad

Buldana rode on Sakshi Ghusalkar’s hat trick to beat Pusad in the first game of the 2019 Inter-district Championship for Sub-Junior Girls at the PTDSA Ground, Boisar on Wednesday.

The game was a one-sided affair as Buldana was on the offensive from the start. Pusad, on the other hand, wilted in the heat. Goals from Roshani Bansod (20th minute) and Ghusalkar (24th minute) settled the game in the first half.

Ghusalkar scored a third in the 45th minute with a fine effort from the edge of the box. She completed her hattrick in the dying minutes of the game with a simple tap in. Ghusalkar was undoubtedly the player of the game as she tormented Pusad’s defenders with pinpoint passing and finishing.
