Late drama sees Naval Dovkyard hold Kenkre U-17

Kenkre FC U-17 had to settle for a point after being held to a 1-1 draw by Naval Dockyard in a 1st Division game of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) at St. Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Tuesday, 3rd November 2015.

Kenkre started the game brightly of the two sides and should have bagged the lead within the first ten minutes of the gane when their striker could only fire a header from a cross from the left flank into the side netting.

A large number of the crowd thought Kenkre had taken the lead, but it wasn’t to be. Kenkre’s youngsters were showing plenty of energy and provably had an edge over their opponents, but failed to replicate the edge on the scoreline which read 0-0 when the referee blew for half time.

The second half failed to take off like the first half did as tge game got scrappy in the middle of the park.

Thr game seemed to be heafing to a drab 0-0 draw until it suddenly came to the boil in the last ten minutes.

Ahmed Sunasma gave Kenkre FC the lead in the 72nd minute when he bundled in from close range to spark celebrations in the Kenkre FC dugout.

It seemed that Kenkre FC had produced the goods to get them all three points until Ganesh Vaydand profited from a loose clearance of a corner by the Kenkre defence as his curled effort from the edge of the box went in after taking a wicked deflection.

However after getting themselves back on terms, Naval Dockyard switched off and almost let the game slip away from their grasps in stoppage time when Kenkre FC’s Sahil Kher had a great chance to snatch a win only for him to fire his shot over the crossbar from close range.

The chance proved costly as Kenkre FC U-17 had to settle for a point in the game.

It was probably a fair result, considering the overall play, Kenkre would feel they had a great chance to claim all three points after taking the lead so late on in the game.
