Central Bank of India’s late winner sinks Western Railways

Central Bank of India (CBI) continued their dream start to their campaign as they beat Western Railways 2-1 thanks to a last gasp winner from Prathamesh Kasare in an Elite Division game held at Cooperage on Monday, 12th October 2015.

It took while for the sides going on yet another hot afternoon in Mumbai and it was the Bankers who had the first big chance of the game when Sharukh Khan was played in on goal in the 23rd minute with a brilliant pass from midfield but the striker failed to keep his shot down as the chance passed away.

Three minutes later, CBI goalkeeper made an absolute blinder of a save to deny Western Railways Ravikant Naidu whose sweetly struck volley from inside the box was acrobatically kept out by Salvi who dived to his left to party the vicious strike onto the post before collecting the resultant loose ball.

CBI who looked the sharper of the two sides made the breakthrough in the 37th minute when Russell Galbano rose highest to head home a corner.

CBI had been the better side in the first half and deservedly went into the break with an advantage.

Western Railways were expected to come hard at Central Bank of India and they did just that pushing CBI on the back foot early on the second half.

Western Railways got their reward for a positive start as Western Railways caught CBI napping and the Bankers failed to deal with a cross from a corner which was taken short allowing Prabal C make a run into the six yards area and tap home Western Railways equalizer in the 55th minute.

CBI almost made an instant response to being pegged back when a through ball found Shahrukh Khan in space in front of the goal in the 62nd minute,  but Jagroop Singh made a fine save diving low to his left to deny the CBI forward.

Western Railways grew into the game as the half weared on and had few chances to score but Railways outfit was wayvard with its efforts.

Striker Kenistan C escaped his marker three minutes from time, but took too much time to get his shot away allowing the CBI centre back to block his effort.

CBI who played majority of the second half on the break, got their winner through one in the 3rd minute of stoppage time, although with a slice of luck as Prathamesh Kasare’s attempted cross went over the goalkeeper and into the side-netting.

There was hardly time for Western Railways to hit back as they fell to their second successive defeat.

Central Bank of India continued their dream start to the season as they made yet another big scalp in the league after PIFA Colaba in their opening game.
