Goalkeeping error gifts Mumbai Customs a point against Central Bank of India

Central Bank of India (CBI) had to be content with a point from their encounter with Mumbai Customs after their goalkeeper let a regulation part slip from his grasps allowing Mumbai Customs to draw the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) tie 1-1 at Cooperage on Friday, 2nd October 2015.

Having got a walkover win against Mumbai FC in their previous encounter, Mumbai Customs took to the field for the first time this season and faced a CBI outfit who were fresh and buzzing after a solid win against PIFA Colaba in their opening encounter.

But the first half of the game failed to deliver any kind of fireworks as neither team could conjure too many goalscoring opportunities to score. The first half ended goalless with both teams being toe to toe in the first half.

The second half had a lot more flow to game as the slight rain helped the ball to zip through. CBI took advantage of that and broke the deadlock in the 54th minute through Shahrukh Khan to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bankers were smelling another major upset as they threatened to double their lead, but failed to take their chances which fell their way. Mumbai Customs who finished in the 3rd position behind big guns Air India and ONGC, in last year’s competition were struggling to live up to their reputation against a team which narrowly escaped relegation.

But Customs came into their own as the game entered into its final twenty minutes and missed a great chance to score in the 73rd minute. But just two minutes later they were gifted a goal when the CBI goalkeeper allowed a regulation shot from the Customs winger Deepak Irmali to slip from his hands and into the goal.

The equalizer titled the tide in Mumbai Customs favour as they tried hard to grab a winner, but CBI held firm as the referee blew for full time.

It was probably a fair result in the end, as there was little to choose between the two sides. But CBI goalkeeper’s error proved to be costly as they failed to produce another upset.
