Lakers FC hold on for a draw against Our Lady of Fatima

Lakers FC and Our Lady of Fatima had to settle for a 1-1 draw after the game sprung into life late in the first half of a 2nd Division game of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) held at St. Xavier’s ground in Parel on Tuesday 22nd September 2015.
Both teams cancelled each other out in the opening minutes of the game which saw few chances for either side to open the scoring. But just when it seemed that the half would end goalless Lakers snatched the lead in the 33rd minute thanks to Robin Michael.
The goal lifted the tension in the Lakers dressing room at half time as the team did well to recover from Ojas Salvi’s injury and a sluggish start to the game to be in front in the game.
The joy though didn’t last long as Our Lady of Fatima equalized just three minutes into the second half. The goal added the missing sharpness to OLF’s play and they were unlucky not to have grabbed all three points in the game when they were twice denied by the crossbar.
The latter of those efforts came in the dying minutes of the game when a dipping free from OLF kick went out after bouncing off the crossbar.
Lakers survived that late scare and held on for a point. The draw was pretty much the fair result as neither team did enough to warranty all three points on a tight afternoon’s play at St. Xavier’s ground in Parel.
