Mumbai Knights edge past India Rush amidst Injury time drama

Mumbai Knights

Mmehak Lobo and Valencia D’mello’s injury-time strikes drag Mumbai Knights from the jaws of defeat to edge past India Rush and pick all three points

The Saturday morning encounter of MFA Women’s Premier league saw Mumbai Knights face off against India Rush in what turned out to be an exciting game filled with frantic late drama that saw three goals scored in injury time and fortunes swinging from one team to other in a matter of minutes.

Coming on the backs of three back-to-back wins, Mumbai Knights looked set to continue their form when in just the 12th minute of the game, Alexandra Eccard broke the deadlock to Mumbai Knights in front. The game continued to and fro as both sides created chances in search of goals. In the second half, India Rush started creating problems within the Mumbai Knights’ backline in search of an equalizer.

The pressure paid off when in the 42nd minute, Pooja Singh found the equalizer to pull back the game on level terms. As the game progressed, the match seemed to head for a draw when in the first minute of injury time, Pooja Singh slotted home her second of the morning to put her side in lead in what seemed like a winner.

However the very next minute, Mumbai Knights were given a lifeline when substitute Mayuri More’s run into the box was cut down by a foul tackle. The referee didn’t hesitate in pointing toward the spot-kick as Valencia D’mello stepped up to take the penalty making no mistake as her shot beat the keeper to find the net.

Two goals in two minutes of injury time and it looked once again like the match was headed towards a draw. Mayuri More though had other ideas as her brilliant through ball cut through three defenders to find Mmehak Lobo beating the offside trap before slotting home the winner. With that late winner, Mumbai Knights made it four wins in four-game.

FT: Mumbai Knights (Alexandra Eccard 12’, Valencia D’mello 70+2’, Mmehak Lobo 50+6’) 3 – 2 India Rush SC (Pooja Singh 42’, 70+1’)
