ISL franchises Bengaluru and Jamshedpur FC conclude Durand Cup campaign on equal terms

17th August 2019, VYBK Stadium, Kolkata: What was supposed to be a boring affair turned out to be the most interesting clash in this edition’s Durand Cup. A neck to neck competition in between the two ISL franchises, Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC, who are already out of the tournament, played the most intriguing match of the coveted tournament.

The match kicked off seeing Jamshedpur FC netting the first goal within the 2nd minute. Vimal Kumar tapped in a low ball put in by Pukhrambam. Ever since the starting goal, the scoring side was immensely put under pressure as Bengaluru FC launched furious attacks on the opposition half. From 15th to 30th minute, Bengaluru FC ran riot but was unfortunately kept at bay by the opposition’s goal-post. The young BFC outfit hit the woodwork thrice within 15-minutes. As the game was inching closer towards its first break, at the 45th mark, BFC scored even. Suresh played a short pass from a corner to Parag who chipped in an emphatic ball to Kima whose headed assist met Leon Augustine’s feet, who made no mistakes in tapping the ball into the net. The first half concluded on level terms as the scoreboard displayed 1-1.

The second half commenced showing Jamshedpur’s intent as they went on to increase their lead. At the 51st minute, Aakash Dave’s effort inside the box got deflected past Dipesh Chauhan and found the net. Jamshedpur started gaining momentum and control over the game. Another defensive error in the last quarter saw the JFC side ensure what seemed to be an easy victory. Nabin Rana scored from Pukhrambam’s assist at the 80th minute and gave his team a 2 goal lead.

The match was closing towards its conclusion, and the scoreboard was in favour of the Jamshedpur side. But the Blues went on to gain two penalties during the added 4 minutes and scored from both the chances. Both the goals were scored by Suresh Singh Wangjam at 90+2 and 90+4 respectively. The match surprisingly ended as a draw, where the scoreline showed 3-3.

Both the ISL franchises have completed their group stage matches and have failed to qualify to the next round. Quess East Bengal FC has qualified from their group and is set to lock horns against Gokulam Kerala FC in the Semi-Finals of the 129th Durand Cup!
