FC Goa Reserves edge past I-League Champions Chennai City FC ‘B’

14th August 2019, Kalyani Stadium, West Bengal: The previous day saw an exciting encounter in the Durand Cup where FC Goa had the last laugh against the current I-League champions, Chennai City FC.

Within the commencing 10 minutes of the game, Liston Colaco, the star of the previous match against the Army Green, drew the first blood against the current I-League champions, Chennai City FC.

However, just when FC Goa thought they can relax for a bit, Mashoor Shereef headed the ball into the net at the 18th minute and relieved Chennai City FC. The match intensified and at the 31st minute, Nestor Dias accounted the second goal for FC Goa, thus giving a much-needed lead of 2-1. The 3 goals scored in the first half an hour of the match ensured the fanatics to glue to their seats. The first half concluded seeing the Gaurs roar with a 2-1 lead.

Although, the adrenaline rush till the half-time whistle was completely crashed with the goalless and comparatively dull second half. Chennai City FC tried hard to score the second goal and level things up, but all of their efforts didn’t bear the fruits as the ball would go over the bars or found itself straight into the hands of the FC Goa shot-stopper.

The scoreboard displayed 2-1 in FC Goa’s favour till the last whistle. FC Goa clinched their consecutive victory and are inching closer to challenge Real Kashmir for the qualifications to the next round.

The Gaurs will meet Real Kashmir FC in a deciding match for the group on August 17, while Chennai City FC will play their final match for this edition’s Durand Cup against Army Green on August 18, both matches to be played at Kalyani.
