Mumbai FC looking to spoil the Royal Wahingdoh fairytale
Mumbai FC will be looking to spoil the Royal Wahingdoh party in their own backyard when Mumbai FC conclude their series of away games in Shillong. Royal Wahingdoh are enjoying a dream first season in the Hero I-League and sit fourth in the table with just two points off the second spot.
It has been a quite remarkable feet already by Santosh Kashyap’s men despite where they eventually finish, but Santosh Kashyap won’t be buying any of these and would his team to continue their good work this season.
Royal Wahingdoh have lost just once on home turf to Champions Bengaluru FC early on in the season and only two other teams have managed to take anything from Shillong after playing the Royals.
But Mumbai FC would feel confident about taking on the Royals after getting the better of the Shillong side in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Mumbai FC have shown great fighting spirit in their last two games after coming away from Kolkata and Goa with a point each.
A similar result will certainly suit the visitors who are winless in eight games with their last win coming a week after beating tomorrow’s opponents Royal Wahingdoh at Cooperage.
Mumbai FC will continue to be without talismanic Japanese midfielder Taisuke Matsugae who is still nursing an injury he sustained in a game against Salgaocar.
Santosh Kashyap will see this game as a big chance to put pressure on the teams above them and won’t settle for anything less than a win despite putting performances ahead of the results this season.
The visitors will look to make life as difficult for the home side and will pose a threat from their long throw ins after they twice scored from that route in the reverse fixture.
Royal Wahingdoh will believe home advantage and their robust attack would prove too strong for Mumbai FC.
A win could take Royal Wahingdoh as high as second place while a draw will help them leapfrog East Bengal into third place. Mumbai who are currently languishing in eighth place will look to leave Shillong two places higher by collecting all three points. But the visitors who are without their manager Khalid Jamil will be glad to take a third consecutive draw away from home.
Mumbai FC have spoiled some of the biggest parties this season and will be looking to leave a stain on a fairy-tale of a season that Royal Wahingdoh and Santosh Kashyap are witnessing. Miles away from home, facing difficult conditions, it would be easier said than done for Mumbai FC.
