Titus and Jayesh’s late strike gives HDFA a 2-1 win over Air India U19

8th March 2018, Mumbai: Air India U19 suffered their first defeat of the season after going down 2-1 against HDFC who recorded their win of the season in MDFA Super Division clash at Mumbai Football Arena (Andheri) on Thursday afternoon. Jayesh Naik’s 87th-minute header snatched all three points for the Bankers in what was a nervy encounter.

With this win, HDFC has leapfrogged Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and cemented their place at 3rd position in the table. The loss didn’t damage Air India’s position as they are still sitting second in the Group D table just below Millat FC.

HDFC made a great start when they earned a penalty in the 6th minute itself. But Air India’s flying-goalkeeper Rishabh Shetty made sure to deny HDFC’s penalty as the Bankers failed to take an early lead against a strong Air India side.

Just like in their previous game against GMSC, Air India U19 missed several opportunities in the first half. While on the other end, HDFC was struggling to break into Air India’s defense. The likes of Titus Uttankar and Ramesh Singh were heavily marked by Air India.

Air India finally broke the deadlock in the second half when substitute Rakshit Pillai scored a fine goal in the 77th minute to put Air India’s noses in front. But HDFC responded immediately when Titus Uttankar bagged a delicate goal past goalkeeper Rishabh Shetty.

With the match heading towards a draw, HDFC’s Jayesh Naik snatched a winner in the 87th minute with a glancing header to give HDFC all three points. Air India was once again left to rue their missed chances.
