Teams get their calculators out as MDFA’s Women’s League reaches its thrilling finale

The Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Women’s League reaches its climax today when Companeroes play S.P. Academy and Body Line SC lock horns with Smart Football Leader SC.

It is everything to play for and as many as five teams out of the eight have chance of basking in glory come today evening. We look at all the permutations and combinations as we head into the last lap.

Sanjeevani Academy – P-7 W-4 D-2 L-1 Pts 14 GD: +15 (Standing: 1st)

Having completed their quota of games, Sanjeevani Academy have done their bit. Despite leading the table going into the final day, Sanjeevani Academy’s fate is completely out of their own hands.

Sanjeevani will have to hope both Body Line SC and S.P. Academy LOSE on the final day and hope Companeroes do not beat S.P. Academy by more than five goals.

A DRAW or a WIN for either S.P. Academy or Body Line SC will end Sanjeevani Academy’s hopes of winning the crown.

S.P Academy – P-6 W-4 D-2 L-0 Pts 14 GD: +13 (Standing: 2nd)

The best placed team to win the MDFA Women’s League. S.P. Academy are unbeaten in this year’s competition and hold the aces with a superior goal difference over Body Line SC.

But they face a must win game against Companeroes on the final day.

A WIN for S.P. Academy will mean Body Line S.C will have to better S.P. Academy’s score line against Companeroes by at least three goals.

A DRAW or a LOSS would leave the door open for Body Line SC who will then require a win over Smart Football Leaders to be crowned champions

A loss would also mean S.P. Academy would finish below Sanjeevani Academy and loss for Body Line would grant them the title.

Body Line S.C – P-6 W-4 D-2 L-0 Pts 14 GD: +10 (Standing 3rd)

The second best placed team to be crowned the MDFA Women’s league Champions is Body Line SC. But they would be dependent on the result of the Companeroes vs S.P Academy game to know their exact fate.

A WIN would get them on 17 points and if S.P Academy win their game then Body Line SC have a three goal deficit to make over them which could leave them needing a big win over Smart Football Leaders.

A DRAW would leave Body Line vulnerable and anything other than a S.P. Academy defeat would signal the end of their dreams.

A LOSS ends their chances of winning the title

So win and win big is the order of the day for Body Line SC

Companeroes SC – P-6 W-3 D-2 L-1 Pts 11 GD: +10 (Standing 4th)

The only way for Companeroes to win the title is to beat S.P. Academy by a margin of six goals and hope Body Line S.C suffer a defeat. Any other scenario than this would end any lingering title hopes.

In unlikely circumstances, Smart Football Leader must not beat Body Line S.C by a margin of ten goals.

Smart Football Leader S.C – P-6 W-3 D-2 L-1 Pts 11 GD: +6 (Standing 5th)

Had the world been a chapter in a fairy tale book, then SML SC would have a chance. SML must beat the unbeaten Body Line SC by at least ten goals and hope Companeroes don’t beat S.P. Academy by more than six goals.

All in all, realistically only three teams have a chance of winning the title. Further narrowing it down, the title is a straight battle between S.P academy and Body Line S.C.

But whatever the outcome, it promises to be an exciting finale to the MDFA Women’s League as players and coaches keep a mathematician in them ready just in case football fails to pick a winner.
