MDFA’s Republic Cup: Round up day 3

St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel: 25th January 2017, the third day of Republic Cup was more competitive and aggressive. In the knockout tournaments, we have always seen some exceptionals, something when Worli SC, a team from the 2nd division emerge victorious against Millat FA ‘A’ of the super division.

From Pool ‘A’,  Worli SC, ICL A, Bombay Disabled & ESIC have qualified from the first round along with Sea View, Mumbai Utd, St. Pauls & Carmelites SC from pool ‘B’ have also earned their spot in the round two.

Here we have the result of the day three fixtures of the tournament.

Worli SC proves their mettle against Super Division team Millat FA A as they held them to a goalless full-time scoreline and later thumped them in the tie-breaker to advance to the quarterfinals.

In another match, Air India U19 outplay  ICL A three goals to nil. Advait Shinde, Kishan Singh & Lawrence Betgeri were on the scoresheet for Air India U19.

In the third match, Mumbai Warriors thrashed Bombay Disabled five goals to nil. Ronith Jain & Sreeraj Nair scored a brace each, and an addition from Huzan Kazi who made it five.

Pool A’s last match was played between ESIC & Century Rayon. Captain Thotchan Vasham scored a brace along with Worchuipa Kashung & Akash Jain made it four for the Rayons whereas Kartik Bele reduced the margin for ESIC.

Beginning with the Pool B round 2 fixtures, Sellebrity FC played Sea View in the afternoon, Ronak Killinger & Merwyn Fernandes got on the scoresheet as they scored one each for Sellebrity FC along with Harshil Sonaiya who got a consolation for the losing side.

In the sixth match of Day 3, Dena Bank got through to the next round easily as the opponent team Mumbai United Athletic Club players failed to turn up on time for the match. As Dena Bank qualified for the next round, they will be playing a highflying match against Sellebrity FC.

St. Pauls were hit by three goals without a reply against G.M.S.C in the evening fixture of the round two. A brace from Roshan Karmaran and a goal from Aloysius Fernandes made it all three for G.M.S.C as they are now through to the quarter-finals.

The last and the final fixture of round two (day 3) was played between Carmelites & Chheda Nagar Soccer Prodigies. Aditya Thakker & Shubham Dalvi’s one goal each secured Prodigies’ spot in the quarter-finals they will be facing G.M.S.C.
