NSS Hill Spring International School wins MSSA Girls under-14 Division 2 title beating Bombay International School 3-2 on penalties

On 28th of November, 2015, NSS Hill Spring International School beat Bombay International School 3-2 on penalties in the 2015 Mumbai Schools Sports Association Girls under-14 Division 2 final at the M.S.S.A. ground, Azad Maidan, C.S.T. The game concluded at 0-0 during normal time, but a tense penalty shoot-out provided enough entertainment value to an excellent final, which saw debutants (in the tournament NSS Hill Spring International School win it for the first-time and create history.

The match was a display of brilliant defensive efforts to keep each other at bay from their goal. Bombay International School defended more than their opponents, who carried waves of attack to breakdown and penetrate through a resolute defensive, which stood strong throughout the game. But it was their forward players who couldn’t do enough to pounce on any chance whilst NSS Hill Spring International School failed to prove decisive in the final third performing limited with a poor attacking talent at their disposal against a much determined and purposeful defence on the day of Bombay International School.

At 0-0 the game, on occasions, drifted off-pace, but the support and cheering of family members from the stands encouraged the kids to provide more as the game demanded. It was to an extend a rare sight to see families and friends cheering and supporting their respective team(s) rather than players who rarely seemed interested in the on-going game as they prepared for their match.

The match and especially, the occasion needed such an atmosphere, and it delivered naturally. The tense normal time saw a hatful of chances being created by NSS Hill Spring International School as the game progressed, coming close to an opener of a couple of occasions.

But, like its predecessor the game went into penalties witnessing a commanding performance from both sides, who were weak in an attacking sense. The game reached its final round: a penalty shoot-out to decide the winner a competition. A perfect script! With the first 5 penalties unable to separate the two sides it was sudden-death and an undaunted side in Bombay International School finally lost its hold, when the pressure mounted and no.37 dragged her shot just off the goalkeeper’s right-hand post.

It was NSS Hill Spring International School’s first year in the competition and they made sure it turns-out to a memorable event. They have created history in this category to win the first silverware in the school’s illustrious past.
