Don Bosco (Matunga) wins the Title of Boys U-14 Utpal Sanghvi Knockout Tournament

Don Bosco High School (Matunga) wins the Title of Boys U-14 Utpal Sanghvi Knockout Tournament after edging past St. Stanislaus High School (Bandra) 6-5 on penalty shootout at Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) Ground, CST on Monday evening.

The side from Matunga proved too strong for St. Stanislaus High School but both the sides were only separated in the penalties as the match ended 1-1 in normal time. An early own goal in the first-half saw Don Bosco trailing but a quick equalizer from Lance Fernandes from Mannan’s cross made the score even.

Don Bosco had a bright start as they came close to score twice in the first ten minutes of the game but somehow St. Stanislaus managed to clear the danger.

Although St. Stanislaus High School proved to be more clinical than Don Bosco as they capitalized from a poor clearance inside the box when Anish Khaire’s shot was deflected and successfully managed to beat Don Bosco’s goalkeeper Priyansh Harjai which opened the scoring.

Minutes later, Mannan’s danced his way through St. Stanislaus defense and managed to put a deadly cross into the box, the initial cross was eventually cleared but unfortunately fell into Lance Fernandes’s path where he volleyed his shot into the net, making it all square just before the break.

St. Stanislaus had a much better second-half. A well organized defense from the boys in yellow send the Final into penalties.

Both the team were tied after five penalties each, with both St. Stanislaus and Don Bosco converting three of the five spot kicks, sending the match into sudden death.

St. Stanislaus Captain Brendan Gomendes’s was saved by Priyansh Harjai which gave Don Bosco a huge opportunity to win the Title.

Preet Parmar stepped up and delightfully placed his shot into the right bottom corner to seal the Boys U-14 Title of Utpal Sanghvi Knockout Tournament for Don Bosco High School (Matunga), creating a jubilant atmosphere at MSSA ground.

Earlier in the afternoon, St. Lawrence High School (Borivali) defeated Campion (Colaba) 4-1 in penalties after the match ended 1-1 to win the 3rd Place.
