by FC January 27, 2026

Cooperage Stadium was buzzing this weekend as the Colaba local football community gathered for the conclusion of the 6th Edition of the Colaba Veterans Football Championship.

It was an unforgettable event that saw former greats and current veterans from across Colaba return to the pitch.

After a day of high-intensity football, Colaba Bulls emerged as the new champions, lifting the trophy after a hard-fought battle against the Colaba Sharks, who finished as worthy runners-up.

The morning session set a high bar for the rest of the tournament. In Group A, Colaba Sharks and Colaba Kings showed great tempo to secure their places in the knockout rounds. Meanwhile, Group B saw Colaba Bulls and Colaba Royals dominate their fixtures to book their own semi-final berths.

The semi-finals delivered exactly the kind of drama the fans at Cooperage expected:

Semi-final 1: The Colaba Sharks edged out the Colaba Royals in a tense 1-0 victory, defending a narrow lead to reach the final.

Semi-final 2: The Colaba Bulls showed their superiority, completely outfoxing the Colaba Kings to secure their spot in the title match.

In the grand finale, the Colaba Bulls maintained their momentum, taking down the Sharks to officially claim the crown for the 6th edition of the championship.

The closing ceremony was made even more special by the presence of Dr. Cyrus Mehta, a renowned Eye Surgeon based in Colaba. At 54 years old, Dr. Mehta serves as an inspiration for the veterans present, embodying a lifestyle of peak physical fitness and discipline.

A true polymath, Dr. Mehta is an Ironman Race Finisher, a feat that involves a 1.5 km swim, a 90 km cycle ride, and a 21 km run. Beyond the triathlon, he is a Maharashtra State Gold Medalist and an Indian Open Champion in Pistol Shooting, holds a National Ranking in Bodybuilding, and has authored 31 books on eye surgery. His presence served as a reminder that the spirit of an athlete remains long after one’s professional playing days.

Individual Awards and Recognition

While the Bulls took home the team trophy, several players were recognized for their outstanding individual contributions throughout the weekend:

Best Player: Harish Bhoir

Top Scorer: Nitin Shetty

The 6th edition of this championship once again proved that football in Colaba is more than just a game—it is a lifelong bond shared by the community.
