MYJ Fight Back in Cooperage Thriller to Earn First Point in I-League 2
MYJ–GMSC marked their I-League 2 debut with a thrilling contest at the Cooperage Stadium, battling back in a high-scoring encounter against Sporting Club Bengaluru to secure their first point of the campaign. In a game filled with momentum shifts and late drama, MYJ showed character and attacking intent to deliver an exciting performance in front of the home crowd.
The visitors, Sporting Club Bengaluru, struck first through Asif O M in the 22nd minute before Devadath S doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute, capitalising on their effectiveness in transition. While MYJ looked composed in possession and threatening in attack, Bengaluru’s counter-attacking approach proved dangerous in the first half.

MYJ responded strongly after the break and found their breakthrough in the 66th minute through Kiran Pandhare. His persistence inside the box paid off as he reacted quickest to a saved effort and stretched to guide the ball into the net. The momentum shifted in MYJ’s favour, and just minutes later, Arvindraj brought them level in the 74th minute, heading home at the second post from a well-worked corner routine.
However, the game took another twist when Karthick Thirumalai restored Bengaluru’s lead in the 75th minute, setting up a tense final phase. MYJ refused to back down and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time when Aashish Lalge produced a moment of brilliance in the 88th minute. Meeting a flicked corner delivery, he unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box into the top corner to level the scores and spark celebrations among the home supporters.
It was a performance full of positives for MYJ, who demonstrated quality on the ball and resilience under pressure. While Sporting Club Bengaluru remained a constant threat on the counter, MYJ’s ability to fight back showcased their readiness for the challenges of I-League 2.
With their first point secured in dramatic fashion, MYJ will take confidence from this performance as they look to build momentum in the matches ahead.
