“A Step Toward Restoring Mumbai Football”: Joe Miranda on MYJ-GMSC’s I-League 2 Journey

The move from local league football to the national stage is a defining moment for any club. For MYJ-GMSC, that step comes with the challenge of higher intensity, demanding travel schedules, and greater physical and tactical expectations in I-League 2.

But for club owner Joe Miranda, this transition is not a cause for concern—it is a milestone the club has been steadily preparing for.

“We don’t fear the jump in intensity; we’ve prepared for it. Our focus has always been on building sustainably—creating a structure that allows us to consistently represent Mumbai and Maharashtra on the national stage.”

Over the past two and a half years, MYJ-GMSC has focused on laying a strong foundation rather than chasing immediate results. The management’s approach has centered around long-term planning—strengthening the squad with experienced players, creating a competitive environment within the team, and ensuring that players receive the right support both on and off the pitch.

This structured growth reflects a clear philosophy: success should be built, not rushed.

“We see the national stage as a challenge we’ve prepared for, not one we fear. We’re building a club that doesn’t just chase short-term success, but honors the rich history of Mumbai football.”

For Miranda, the club’s ambitions extend well beyond the current season. While participation in I-League 2 is a significant achievement, it is only one step in a much larger journey.

The broader goal is to establish MYJ-GMSC as a consistent representative of Mumbai and Maharashtra at the national level—something the city has lacked in recent years despite its deep footballing roots.

“Our vision is bigger than just one season. This campaign isn’t just about playing in I-League 2; it’s about taking a meaningful step toward putting Mumbai football back where it belongs.”

Mumbai has long been a powerhouse in Indian football, producing talent and nurturing a passionate football culture. MYJ-GMSC’s rise represents more than just a club’s progress—it reflects a renewed effort to bring Mumbai back into the national spotlight.

As the club steps into I-League 2, the message from its leadership is clear: this is not just participation, but purpose. A calculated, well-prepared push toward rebuilding a lasting footballing presence for Mumbai on the national stage.
