Cummings’ Stoppage-Time Stunner Seals Thrilling Win for Mohun Bagan
Mohun Bagan Super Giant edged out Punjab FC 3-2 in a dramatic Indian Super League 2025-26 encounter at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, with a late free-kick from Jason Cummings proving to be the difference.
The match lived up to expectations as a high-intensity contest, with both sides trading blows throughout. Punjab struck first in the 12th minute when Dani Ramírez capitalised on a well-worked move to give the visitors an early lead.
Mohun Bagan responded strongly and found their equaliser midway through the first half. Jamie Maclaren produced a moment of quality inside the box, beating his marker before firing home to level the scores.
The second half continued in the same entertaining fashion. Punjab regained the lead around the hour mark, with Nsungusi Jr. Effiong finishing clinically to restore their advantage and put the hosts under pressure once again.
However, Mohun Bagan refused to back down. Substitute Sahal Abdul Samad made an immediate impact, scoring a stunning long-range effort to bring his side back on level terms and set up a tense finale.
With both teams pushing for a winner, the decisive moment arrived in stoppage time. Mohun Bagan were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position, and Cummings stepped up to curl a superb effort into the top corner, sealing a dramatic victory.
Punjab FC pushed forward in the dying moments in search of another equaliser, but Mohun Bagan held firm to secure all three points. The win lifts the Mariners to second place in the standings, keeping them firmly in the title race after a thrilling contest.
