Mumbai Premier League: Mumbay FC surge to 3rd place, Dwight Dabreo’s brace seals MYJ-GMSC win

Mumbai Premier League title race heats up as Mumbay FC & MYJ-GMSC pick crucial wins & are now breathing down the necks of the league leaders
Mumbay FC Climbs to Third with CFCI Triumph
Mumbay FC continued their impressive debut season with a crucial 2-1 victory over CFCI, propelling them to third place. The match, played with intensity, saw Mumbay FC take the lead in the 36th minute through a well-executed goal by Regan. The second half began with a bang, as substitute Parag made an immediate impact, doubling Mumbay FC’s advantage within a minute of entering the field.
CFCI fought back, with Joy Banerjee pulling a goal back in the 58th minute, setting up a tense final period. Despite CFCI’s late pressure, Mumbay FC held firm, securing the three points. This win moved Mumbay FC to 11 points from seven games, putting them hot on the heels of league leaders Hope United and India On Track, both with a game in hand. Meanwhile, CFCI’s search for a Championship Round victory continues.
MYJ-GMSC’s Late Surge Overwhelms ICL Mumbai FC
In a contrasting encounter, defending champions MYJ-GMSC faced a determined ICL Mumbai FC. The match was a cagey affair for much of its duration, with both teams struggling to break the deadlock. However, the final stages of the game exploded into life, courtesy of a sensational performance by substitute Dwight Dabreo.
Dabreo proved to be the match-winner, scoring two goals in quick succession. His first came in the 86th minute, capitalizing on a well-placed cross from Siddharth Nayak. Dabreo’s header looped over the keeper and into the net to put the mighty lions in the lead. Few minutes later in stoppage time, Dabreo struck again, tapping in a rebound after a chaotic goalmouth scramble following Keegan’s freekick.
MYJ-GMSC then added a third, showcasing a brilliant team goal. Shannon’s pass to Tanmay, followed by Tanmay’s one-touch assist to Siddharth, set up Kamran, who danced past defenders before clinically finishing. The 3-0 victory propelled MYJ-GMSC to fourth place, also with 11 points, just one point behind the leaders.
League Table Tightens as Competition Intensifies
These results have significantly tightened the league table, with Mumbay FC and MYJ-GMSC asserting their title credentials. The Championship Round is now a battleground of closely matched teams, each vying for the coveted top spot. Two teams at the pole position with 12 points being followed by another two teams at 11 points. Football fans can expect more thrilling encounters as the race for the Mumbai Premier League title continues.
