Rohan Rodrigues stars with brace as Sporting Clube de Goa move to top of table

In a scintillating I-League 2 clash at Tilak Maidan, Goa, the spotlight was undeniably on Rohan Rodrigues, whose stellar performance guided Sporting Clube de Goa to a triumphant victory on their home turf.
The match unfolded under a humid Goan sky, setting the stage for a showcase of precision and tactical brilliance.
The 10th-minute breakthrough showcased Rodrigues’ brilliance. A perfectly executed cross from the left wing by Biswa found Rodrigues, who showcased impeccable heading precision to net a goal, granting Sporting Clube de Goa an early 1-0 lead. Despite a penalty opportunity later in the game, Goa’s Alister saw his kick hit the woodwork, allowing Maharashtra Oranje FC to escape unscathed.
A pivotal moment came just before halftime when Rodrigues once again showcased his goal-scoring prowess. He orchestrated a grounded goal, doubling Sporting Clube de Goa’s lead to 2-0. The first half concluded with the home team in a commanding position.
As the second half commenced, Goa maintained their attacking tempo. Oranje’s goalkeeper, Pratik Manohar, displayed commendable skills, making two consecutive saves to deny Goa’s attempts. Meanwhile, Goa’s defense stood resolute, thwarting every counter-attack from Oranje. The home team’s cohesive strategy and Rodrigues’ leadership on the field were instrumental in maintaining the clean sheet.
The final whistle signaled a well-deserved victory for Sporting Clube de Goa, propelling them to the top of the league table. Rohan Rodrigues’ brace not only secured the three points but also solidified his status as a homecoming hero.
In a parallel fixture, Kenkre FC secured their second win of the season, defeating Dempo SC 2-0 with goals from Pawan and Raul. This win marked a significant climb for Kenkre, moving them up to the 5th spot from the bottom, adding another layer of excitement to the league standings.
