Mumbai Super League Playoff Picture: Who got in, who missed it and who still has a chance

MFA Super League playoff race

The Mumbai Super League group stage is its final phase with a flurry of intense matches, leaving us with a clear picture of which teams have secured their spots in the playoff round and which are still in the race.

Let’s dive into the dramatic current standings across the groups.

Group C: India on Track FC and Mumbai City FC U19 March On

India on Track FC and Mumbai City FC U19 emerged as the dominant forces in Group C, both accumulating an impressive 30 points each from 12 games. Their unbeaten run, featuring 9 wins and 3 draws, secured their places in the playoff round. Mumbai City FC U19 clinched the top spot, edging out India on Track FC on goal difference.

Tarun Sporting exhibited commendable resilience but narrowly missed out on the playoff berth. The group witnessed fiercely competitive matches, but in the end, it was the consistent performance of India on Track FC and Mumbai City FC U19 that propelled them into the next phase.

Group A: Bombay Gymkhana, Om Saidham clinches top 2 Spot

The race for top 2 spot in Group A witnessed a fierce four-way battle between Bombay Gymkhana, Om Saidham, Mumbai Ultras, and Young Guns (Rhema) FA. Bombay Gymkhana emerged triumphant, defeating the big guns in group Mumbai Ultras and securing draws against Young Guns and Om Saidham and eventually a 10-0 win over ICL to finish unbeaten with 27 points.

In the final round of fixtures, Mumbai Ultras fought hard, defeating Ratnam FC, but needed Young Guns (Rhema) to hold off Om Saidham. Until the 60th minute, the scores remained level at 2-2, but Om Saidham staged a late comeback with 3 goals to secure their spot in the playoff round. Bombay Gymkhana topped Group A with 27 points, closely followed by Om Saidham at 26 points, while Mumbai Ultras finished at 25 points, just one point adrift.

Group B: Somaiya FC Secures Top Position, 2nd spot still open

Group B’s top spot was claimed by Somaiya FC with 26 points after completing their full set of games. Currently second in the table, Maharashtra Oranje U23 finished their group campaign with 24 points, anxiously awaiting the result of the KSA Juniors vs Iron Born fixture to determine their fate.

As Iron Born and KSA Juniors prepare for a decisive encounter, both teams have a chance to secure a playoff spot. KSA Juniors, on 22 points, can clinch a spot with a win that takes them to 25 points. Iron Born, currently on 23 points, needs a victory to reach 26 points and ensure qualification. In the event of a draw, Iron Born finishes at 24 points, and KSA Juniors at 23 points. However, since Maharashtra Oranje U23 had defeated both teams during earlier group encounters, they would advance based on the head-to-head record.

The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion as these teams battle it out for a coveted spot in the playoff round. Stay tuned for the upcoming fixtures that promise excitement and high stakes in the Mumbai Super League.
