MFA Elite Premier League: The Oranje FC edge past GMSC

The Oranje FC downs GMSC 1-0 in a highly entertaining counter that saw fortunes fluctuating at both ends throughout the game

The Monday morning encounter between GMSC and The Oranje FC ended in the latter sneaking a late winner. Placed second in the league table with 30 points, GMSC came into the game needing a win to keep their slight pressure on the league leaders.

GMSC started out positively with Sudhakar Ranjan setting up Rohan Shukla early on in the game only for the latter’s shot to go just wide. At the other end, Oranje had a brilliant chance to take the lead when Amrendra Singh sent in a low cross into the box that found striker Mohammed Ashiqe who failed to find the target. A few minutes later, GMSC returned the favor when Rohan’s cross found Sudhakar who failed to find the net.

The Oranje FC upped the ante as Ashiqe attempted a shot from distance only for the ball to whiz past the post. A few minutes before the break, The Oranje FC broke on a counter with Prathamesh’s final shot getting blocked by a last-minute challenge from a GMSC defender.

The second half began with GMSC forward Rohan’s curling effort being parried away by Oranje GK Shivam while at the other end Amrender’s dribbled past a couple of defenders before unleashing a fierce shot that came off the bar. A few minutes later, another woodwork denied Amrender, when Dheeraj’s cross was headed by Amrender onto the post.

GMSC started crumbling under pressure as The Oranje FC raised the intensity in the last 20 minutes, in the closing stage Ashiqe’s strike was saved by GMSC keeper Yash. In the 86th minute, GMSC looked to have taken the lead when substitute Sayan Banerjee’s strike found the back of the net only for the Assistant referee to flag it offside.

However, at the other end, a cross from Dheeraj into the GMSC box was dummied off by Harold as a result the ball deflected off a GMSC defender and striker Amrender Singh before nestling into the net.

GMSC tried a late attempt to stage a comeback only to be denied by The Oranje FC defense as the game fizzled off to a 1-0 end.

FT: The Oranje FC (Amrender Singh 88’) 1 – 0 GMSC
