Hekmat Singh stars with a double hat-trick as Customs beat ESIC 7-0
Defying his age, Hekmat produced a clinical display of finishing in front of goal as he pumped in half a dozen himself in Customs 7-0 rout out of ESIC
On a recording-breaking day, Customs notched up their fifth consecutive win to keep their Elite Corporate League title defense right on the mark. Hekmat was the star of the day as he smashed a magnificent double hat-trick in a single game.
It seemed like every time Hekmat Singh had a ball at his feet, he would find the net. The Mumbai Customs defender was in some goal-scoring form smashing in six goals – a record for MFA Elite League, previously held by Ghanian striker Yakubu, who had scored 5 goals in a single game.
The first goal for the customs came in the 5th min when Hekmat Singh latched on to a through ball from Praneel Mendon penetrating through the ESIC defenders, before unleashing his shot. In the 17th minute, Hekmat doubled the lead heading home off a pinpoint cross from Arjun Singh. Minutes before halftime, Hekmat completed his hat-trick when he let off a stunning 30 yards strike that beat the keeper to find the back of the net.
The second half began with Customs continuing their attack from the very first minutes. While Hekmat gave the finishing touches, Jinto Jose, Monish Bhamre, Sarvesh Surve, and Ajinkya were the stars in the middle creating regular chances in the ESIC box. Hekmat scored his fourth around the hour mark before notching up his fifth in the 76th minute. In the 79th minute, Hekmat turned provider when he beat his marker to send the ball across for Dhaval Waghela for an easy tap into the empty net.
Late in the game, Customs won a penalty after a foul inside the ESIC box, Hekmat Singh stepped up to take the spot-kick before sending his shot past the keeper to complete a well-deserved record-breaking double hat-trick.
So comfortable were Customs in the game that at the back it was a half-day concession for goalkeeper Lihaz Koya under the bar as he was substituted for Sandip Pal at the break. Having played for I league clubs from Kolkata, Sandip had recently joined Mumbai Customs under sports quota to play in MFA Corporate League.
FT: ESIC 0 – 7 Mumbai Customs (Hekmat Singh 5’, 17’, 45+2’, 62’, 76’, 90+1’(P), Dhaval Waghela 79’)
