FCG vs JFC – Three Key Battles to watch out for

As FC Goa prepare to lock horns with Jamshedpur FC, we take a look at three key battles from the clash against Jamshedpur FC that will have a big impact on the result.
After the end of the first half of the season, FC Goa occupy the fourth position of the ISL standings with 15 points. The Gaurs have won two of their last three encounters and come into this clash with positive momentum.
We take a look at three key battles from the clash against Jamshedpur FC that will have a big impact on the result.
- Igor Angulo vs Jamshedpur FC Defence
Spaniard striker Igor Angulo has been the go-to man for the FC Goa attacking unit. He has racked up a tally of nine goals over the course of ten matches. Angulo’s movement in and around the box has been lethal for the Gaur establishing himself as the league’s top scorer so far.
Against Jamshedpur FC, the Spanish forward will be up against a sturdy Jamshedpur FC defensive pairing helmed by Stephen Eze and Peter Hartley. The overseas signings have been highly effective for the Red Miners with the former being a goal threat from set piece situations.
Angulo’s success will be dependent on his performance against the Jamshedpur FC defensive duo which will play a big role in the result of the match.
- Edu Bedia vs Aitor Monroy
A battle of the Spanish midfielders will be crucial for the fate of the encounter at the Fatorda Stadium. Both Edu Bedia and Aitor Monroy are on set piece duty for their respective sides.
Edu Bedia plays the role of the enforcer in the FC Goa midfield with his no-nonsense mentality and intense play. For the Red Miners, Monroy is the key chance creator in the middle of the park and regulates the flow of the play. The tempo of the game will be largely dependent on the two Spanish midfielders’ form on the ball and will be crucial for the final result.
- FC Goa Defence vs Nerijus Valskis
FC Goa’s defensive setup has been marshaled by the new signings James Donachie and Ivan Gonzalez. Both the recruits have managed to form a solid partnership in the middle of the defence. Coach Juan Ferrando would his Spanish defensive duo to work well in tandem at the back and avoid conceding early which has been the case in recent game.
They will have their hands full against one of the most lethal attackers in the ISL, Nerijus Valskis. The Jamshedpur FC striker has been in good form scoring eight goals so far in the competition. The defenders will have to be at their best to keep the Lithuanian striker quiet at the Fatorda stadium. This battle between the Red Miners’ attacker and the FC Goa defence will be crucial for the match’s result.
