Fan Voice – “Kudos to team, coaching staff and management for making history”

FC Goa scripted a record 13 game-unbeaten run in the league and booked their playoff spot for the fourth time consecutively. This is also the sixth time that FC Goa acclaimed the top four spot in the Indian Super League.

In a cagey battle, FC Goa managed to end on equal terms against Hyderabad and make their way to the final four. Throughout the season, Juan Ferrando’s men faced woes in defence. The team failed to maintain a clean sheet on their previous 8 encounters but robustly delivered on a day when it was either all or nothing.

FC Goa fans showered love for the entire team and quoted their admiration for the combined efforts put in by the team, coaching staff and management.

“We have been consistently performing well in every game. The 13-game unbeaten run shows for itself how we have played throughout the season. We deserved to win a couple of those which we ended in a draw. Every match a different player has stepped up and performed to his best abilities and won us the essential points. That is the main takeaway from this season. We haven’t depended on just one player to score goals and assist but several players have performed throughout, right from Ishan, Igor, Ortiz, Gonzalez and Noguera to Adil, Romario, Seriton, Gama and Dheeraj. Both the new guys who we have got in the transfer window have shown us what they bring to the team. Top recruitment by Ravi Puskar. Hopefully, we bring the cup home this season. Fingers crossed, Força Goa” says Kunal Kunkolienkar, a member of East Lower Army, Margao-Goa.

Speaking of the entire season, Saiel Naik of East Lower Army says it was nothing less than a rollercoaster ride. “As far as this season is concerned, it’s a rollercoaster ride for us, We had the big task of rebuilding the team, a team which will compete in Asia in April. We did it very well, our qualification shows how hard the team worked this season.”

After the loss of stalwart Ferran Corrominas, defender Mourtada Fall and Captain Mandar Rao Dessai, fans were quite skeptical on what the future beholds. However, at the end of group stage, Abhishek Sawant, a member of East Lower Army believes that Juan Ferrando’s strategy of injecting local talents into the team has been phenomenal. “This season has been good with the set of players we had. Youngsters have stepped up, be it Princeton Rebello, Glan Martins, Saviour Gama, Devendra Murgaonkar, Redeem Tlang. This clearly shows FC Goa’s appropriate policy for youth development”  quipped Abhishek.

“Six qualifications out of Seven seasons speaks volume about the club’s consistency both on-field and off the field. Our management has time and again proven that the club’s vision is above all. Things will change but not our vision, and we feel blessed to have such owners” says Sameer Shirodkar of East Lower Army when asked about his take on the right choices made by FC Goa.

FC Goa will be up against rivals and champions Mumbai City FC at the first leg of the Semi-finals on 5th March at the Fatorda Stadium.
