WIFA Inter District Open Men’s Championship: Gondia, Sangali, Nanded and Wardha qualifies

Day 2 of the WIFA Inter-District Open Men’s Championship paved the way for Gondia, Sangali, Nanded, and Wardha to the next round.

The matches kicked off sharp at 8:00 AM. The opening encounter of the day saw Wardha clash swords against Osmanabad. Wardha’s lethal forces vanquished Osmanabad as the former thumped half-a-dozen goals past their opponents. Shiv Agnihotri, who later scored 4 goals, opened the scoresheet for Wardha at the 29th minute. Following him, within a minute, Prajwal found the net to double the lead. The half time ended with Wardha leading by two goals against Osmanabad. The second half kicked off only for Osmanabad to succumb in front of dominant Wardha forces. Shiv netted two goals consecutively at the 46th and 49th minutes to complete his hat-trick and scored his fourth goal at the 67th minute to put the final nail to the coffin. Rutik scored the other goal at the 52nd minute.

The second game of the day saw Nanded run riot against Latur. The lethal Nanded outfit outclassed Latur by netting 5 goals past them. Mohmmed Khaled scored the first goal at the 26th minute. His only goal was the difference between both sides at the end of the first half. Following his lead, in the second half, Khaled doubled the score at the 49th minute. Pradip, Manish, and Mohmmed scored consecutively within 10 minutes from 60-70 minutes to gift Nanded a commendable win against Latur.

In the third game of the day, an end to end affair saw Gondia edge past Thane by 2 goals to 1. Bhupendra scored an early goal at the 4th minute to give Gondia the lead. Asharaf went on to increase the lead at the 37th minute. At the end of the first half, Gondia was ahead by a comfortable two-goal lead. However, Thane retaliated in the second half. Ayush scored a goal at the 66th minute to keep Thane in the fight. Albeit, after putting up a great show, they failed to find the net for the second time, which eventually opened the doors of the next round to Gondia.

The final game of the day saw Sangali ease past Raigad. Prajwal and Salik scored in the first half to give Sangali a two-goal lead at half time. In the second half, Umesh found the net at the 63rd minute to take a cosy lead against Raigad. Sangali maintained their lead and the final scoreboard read in favour of them.
