WIFA Inter District: Nashik, Buldana, Pune win big on Matchday 3

Day 3 of the WIFA Inter-District Sub Junior Girls Football championship hosted as many as 6 encounters with exciting results.

The day opener saw Nashik lock horns against Beed. A frailed Beed outfit succumbed to suppress the lethal Nashik attack as they conceded early. Nashik scored as many as 3 goals to be ahead at the first half. The second half kicked off only to see Nashik add 2 more goals to the tally taking the scoreline to a massive 5 goal lead.

The second game of the day hosted Thane against Dhule. At an end to end affair, both the teams created chances but failed to find the net. At half time, the scoreboard remained nil. However, in the second half, Riya’s effort broke the deadlock for Thane. Her only goal happened to be enough for Thane to grab the tickets to the next round.

The next match saw Buldana play out a dominant performance against Satara. With a screamer from Sakshi, which whipped the top corner of Satara’s net, Buldana were up by a solitary goal at half time. Sakshi, who scored a hat-trick to win the game found an early goal at the start of the second half. She put the final nail in the coffin at the fag end of the game to assure Buldana’s progress to the next round.

The next game of the day saw a robust Pune outfit outclass Yavatmal. Being lethal on the attack since the match commenced, Pune created many chances on the opponent’s defensive half. Shreya scored the only goal to give Pune the lead before the half time. In the second half, Pune scored twice through Urvi and Sapna’s strike to ensure a decisive win against team Yavatmal.

On the second last encounter of the day, Nagpur scored a brace against Ahmednagar to qualify for the next round. Mahi slotted home the first goal to take the lead at half time. In the second half, Muskan scored the other goal to hand Nagpur a laudable victory.

The final game of the day hosted home team Palghar against Solapur. Failing to break the deadlock in both the halves, the home side eventually lost on penalties. Palghar missed their initial two attempts whereas Solapur made no mistake to find the net on their initial three strikes. Scoring their only goal on the third and failing to find the target on their 4th attempt, Palghar lost 3-1 in penalties against Solapur.
