Top 3 Gaur encounters to look forward this season

Gaur encounters

Despite this mass exodus, FC Goa have assembled a good squad with signings of experienced campaigners. We take a look at three Gaur encounters to look forward this season.

FC Goa are one of the most consistent sides in the history of the Indian Super League having finished in the playoffs spot, i.e. the top four in five out of six seasons. They are widely considered to be the most exciting teams to watch in the ISL with their goal-scoring exploits over the years.

Their consistency and positive play was rewarded last year when they finished as the table-toppers winning 12 out of their 18 matches. With this feat, they became the first Indian club to qualify for the group stages of the AFC Champions League. However, despite their success in the ISL, the trophy continues to elude them and they will aim to finally add it to their cabinet.

The Gaurs will be up for a unique campaign ahead as they play under their new head coach Juan Ferrando and a squad comprising of a new core of players. The off-season saw their former head coach Sergio Lobera move to Mumbai City FC and along with him, crucial players such as Mandar Rao Dessai, Hugo Boumous, Mourtada Fall and Ahmed Jahouh followed suit to the Islanders.

Despite this mass exodus, FC Goa have assembled a good squad with signings of experienced campaigners such as James Donachie, Igor Angulo, Jorge Ortiz, Ivan Gonzalez and Alberto Noguera. We take a look at some of the encounters that the Gaurs will be looking forward to this season.

#3 FC Goa vs Bengaluru FC

Two of the most successful sides in the ISL in the recent years, the clash between FC Goa and Bengaluru FC will be the season opener for the Gaurs. The Bengaluru FC team is one of the only sides who enjoy a better head-to-head record over FC Goa with five wins for the Blues in comparison to Goa’s one. Both the sides are known to play a brand of possession-based football with exciting attackers in their ranks and sturdy defenders as well. The clash promises to be a thriller and Goa fans could not have asked for a better match to start their season with on home turf.

#2 FC Goa vs ATK Mohun Bagan

ATK Mohun Bagan will be playing their first season as the merged entity between the defending ISL and I-League champions ATK and Mohun Bagan respectively. ATKMB are known to be an attack-minded team with solid firepower with strikers like David Williams and Roy Krishna in the squad. With talented players in their squad as well, FC Goa will be raring to go against the Mariners and we can expect a thrilling game with end-to-end action.
