Pillai College clinches University Inter-collegiate football title for 2nd consecutive year

The final of University Inter-collegiate Football tournament between last year finalists Pillai College and Thakur College face off each other once again with the former successfully defending the title.
Unlike last year, when Pillai College lifted the title with a convincing 2-0 win over the Thakur College, this time around the final witnessed a closely fought edge of the seat game that extended till penalty shoot-out.
Pillai College came into the final with a 2-1 win over S M Shetty while Thakur College defeated past KC College in the semi-finals. In the final, Pillai started out well with some good attacking moves. However it was Thakur College that had the best chance of the half, when Sunny Thakur missed an open chance in front of the goals.
In the second half, Pillai took the lead when minutes after the hour mark a low cross from Daniel was latched on by Sanchit Singh who placed it accurately to the left of keeper to side his side 1-0 up. In the dying moments of the game, Thakur College found the equalizer when a ball from right flank was latched on by Dhawal Waghela before unleashing the powerful shot behind the keeper to make it 1-1.
During Penalty Shootout, Daniel, Vinod, Sylvester successfully converted the first 3 spot-kick for Pillai college while Harsh, Wayne, Parth converted the first three chances for Thakur College. In the 4th spot-kick, Abhinav converted his attempt while Dhawal missed his which put Pillai College at lead. Sanchit Singh converted the final spot-kick for Pillai College to win the shootout 5-3.
This was Pillai College’s third overall title in sixth consecutive final appearance successfully defending the title from last year.
