MDFA Republic Cup Round up: Boxer FA, Sara FA, CFCI-CSL reach Quarterfinals

Feugo Tormento FC, OSSM and Rudra FA produced a clinical display to reach quarter-finals while Boxer FA, Sara FA, CFCI – CSL run through the qualifier round and Pre-Quarters to enter top 8

Mumbai Marines started out their Republic day campaign on positive note with a close 1-0 win over Dadar XI (B) courtesy of Sankalp Rajpange’s 31st minute strike. However their run ended in Round of 16 after another close game losing on Penalties.

Meanwhile CFCI – CSL edged Maurya Foundation on penalties before doing picking an upset victory over Worli SC in Pre-Quarters. Against Worli SC, Sahil Shinde’s 28th minute strike was cancelled out by Raghavan five minutes later as the game ended in 1-1. In Penalty Shootout, CFCI held their nerves well to win the game and make way through to the top 8.

Similarly, Sara FA snuck past Lemon Break after a win on Penalties while in final qualifiers, Boxer FA faced off Future Star Academy. In an exciting encounter, Ajinkya Umasare broke the lead minutes before half time to Boxer in front. In the second half, Future Star tried their best but found it difficult to break Boxer FA. Momentary lapses in 37th minute saw Javed Shaikh pick up his 2nd yellow of the day after a foul inside the box. Down to 10 men, Future Stars misery compounded after Sayyed converted his spot-kick to double the lead for Boxer FA. However a late drama ensued when Ajay Kadam reduced the deficit in the very next minute. In the final nervy moments, Boxer FA stood tall and hold the game to a 2-1 score line and enter the round of 16.

Feugo Tormento FC produced a clinical display of football outclassing their opponent in attack with three goals and in defence by keeping a clean sheet. Joyson Chettiar broke the deadlock in first half before Sanket Humbe stuck a fine 2nd half brace to complete the 3-0 win.

Meanwhile OSSM rode on Shoaib Baif heroics to outclass Das Football Academy. Aditya Jambhle’s 10th minute strike had put them on lead. However OSSM responded strongly with two quick goals through shoaib to take the lead at break. On restart, Shoaib got on to act quickly with another two quick fire goals to put the game beyond Das FA’s reach.

United Villagers rode Brital Possa first half strike to edge past The Sports Gurukul outfit while Boxer FA edged Millat FC (A) 1-0 courtesy of Avlon Dias 17th minute strike.
