Mumbai Customs staved off a spirited Central Bank of India fight back to snatch away a close 2-1 victory in an Elite Division match of the Rustomjee-MDFA League 2019-2020 played out at the Cooperage ground on Saturday.
The defending champions Mumbai Customs asserted their dominance by forging ahead through Shrikant Vermulu strike in the 24th and go into the break with a narrow 1-0 cushion.
Central Bank fought on gamely and managed to draw level when Alistair A. found the net in the 85th minute. But, a determined Mumbai Customs immediately regained the lead when their consistent scorer, C.S. Naseef scored their second goal in the 87th minute and seal their win and collect all the three points.
Meanwhile in Super Division, Soccer XI came back from a goal down twice to register a 4-3 win over Sunday Boys. After a cagey beginning, Sunday Boys managed to edge ahead at half time with goal deep in to the added time of first 45 minutes as Calvin Dsouza’s strike found the back of the net.
