MDFA organizes 81 matches in One Day!

The Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) set a new record in football operations as the association organized 81 Yuva President League matches in a day at the Neville D’Souza Ground, Bandra.

The Yuva President League is a grassroots development initiative taken by the governing body of football in Mumbai District. Started in 2016, the Yuva President League is the flagship project for the MDFA. When the project came into being, it only started with age groups of U-12 and U14. As of today, the Yuva President League boasts of 300+ teams under the age brackets of U-8 to U-14.

Mr Sudhakar Rane, the General Secretary of the MDFA, emphasized on the importance of management in sports. “It is due to the capability of our team that we were able to organize as many as 81 matches in a day. It is never easy when it comes to deal with children and to manage such a huge number of matches  within 8 hours”

Creating 6 equal fields in the Neville D’Souza Ground, Bandra, the committee was capable to complete all the 81 matches in between 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM. The format of the game is 5-a-side each and the duration is 15 minutes per half.

“We have aplenty talents in Mumbai. And we’re committed to developing them from a young age. It is India’s dream to create a robust grassroots football structure so that we become able to spot and catch them young.” quoted Mr Rane. The YPL consists of 300+ teams, which includes 3000+ budding players to showcase their talent and to fulfil their ambitions. In this season, the Yuva President League has also included 28 girls football teams across age groups U-17 and U-14.

Alongside the Yuva President League, the MDFA also organizes the MDFA Elite, Super, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Divisions which consists around 300 teams. The Elite Division, which consists historic teams like the ONGC, Air India, Mumbai Customs etc  spans for around 6 months every season.

The Mumbai District Football Association, which was established back in 1983 under the tutelage of the Western India Football Association (WIFA), stands tall with its commitment to spreading the beautiful game of football in the City of Dreams!
